Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Solidworks, CATIA)

Job Description

Our client, located in Belcamp, MD, is currently in the design phase of a new product line for the U.S. Department of Defense - a handheld respiratory protective device for the warfighter. They are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer who is proficient with Solidworks and/or CATIA. The candidate must be able to use Solidworks for Solid 3D Modeling, Surface Modeling, Parametric Modeling, and Modeling of Compounds/Contours. Experience designing products made with plastic, rubber, and elastomer would be a plus. This role requires close collaboration in a team environment with other engineers and designers. U.S. Citizenship is required, and the candidate must be able to pass a background check.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficient solid modeling skills to create prototype and production-level product designs in a timely manner to meet project deadlines.

  • Develop product testing procedures and protocols to meet industry specifications.

  • Perform engineering analysis to assess failure modes of new product designs.

  • Troubleshoot and solve production and process problems through applied engineering skills.

  • Analyze internal and external non-conformance and work to understand root cause and effective corrective action.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Solidworks for Solid 3D Modeling, Surface Modeling, Parametric Modeling, and Modeling of Compounds/Contours.

  • Experience with CATIA.

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field (Associates Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting is acceptable).

  • 7-15 years of experience.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Self-motivated and capable of managing own workload of multiple tasks.

  • Strong commitment to safety.

  • Hands-on mechanical aptitude.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience designing products made with plastic, rubber, and elastomer.

  • 3D printing experience.

  • Experience with vibration testing, R&D, load analysis, engineering management, cost, schedule, customer interface, and supplier interactions.

  • Experience with plastics, injection molding, tooling, and tooling design.

Work Environment

Our client has office space, R&D lab space, and manufacturing/production space at their office in Belcamp, MD. They manufacture several products made from rubber and plastic, including gas masks, PAPRs, respirators, body armor, and lacrosse equipment. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, requiring nimbleness and creativity. Dress code and facility conditions are typical of an engineering and manufacturing setup, with an emphasis on safety.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $46.00 - $69.00/hr.
