Job Summary

Dominion Energy South Carolina (DESC) is currently looking for a Plant Electrician and Instrumentation Technician to join the team at Urquhart Station in Beech Island, SC. This position requires knowledge in Electrical and Instrumentation & Controls. The E & I apprentice position is responsible for troubleshooting, installation, operation and maintenance of instrumentation & control and electrical equipment and systems within the plant.

  • This position performs instrumentation troubleshooting and maintenance, electronic circuit board diagnostics, print and logic diagram reading, transmitter repair and calibrations, control valve repair and calibrations with DVC’s, Allen Bradley 5000 PLC systems, hydraulic systems, and pneumatics.

  • This position is required to maintain and troubleshoot Emerson Ovation, GE Mark VI and GE Mark VIe distributive control systems.

  • This position is required to become CEMs (Continuous Emissions Monitoring System) certified and maintain and repair all equipment associated with CEMs.

  • The position also requires the ability to maintain and troubleshoot electro-mechanical and microprocessor devices and relay logic.

  • Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting, installation, operation and maintenance of electrical power systems, low and medium voltage switchgear, AC/DC motors and starters/contactors, as well as electrical conduit and stainless-steel tubing installation.

  • This position also performs routine electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities as needed.

  • This position may also serve as new project lead to assist with other E&I Technicians and/or contractors.

The company is actively seeking United States military veterans and service members who meet the qualifications outlined below:

  • Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined under Minimum Requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum Requirements (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications):

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of related electrical, instrumentation and controls work experience with strong troubleshooting skills is required.

  • This position also requires experience operating personal computers and a fundamental knowledge of Windows based software.

  • A valid driver’s license, good physical condition, and ability to work in confined spaces including the ability to wear a respirator and maintain annual respirator qualification is required.

  • This position requires heavy lifting, climbing tall structures at extreme heights, overtime and will be subject to call outs.

  • Ability to work during inclement weather is also required.

  • The selected candidate will be evaluated for placement in the appropriate step of the Urquhart Station Electrical & Instrumentation Apprentice program based on documented training and/or experience.

Education Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent (i.e., GED) is required. An associate degree in a related field of study or the equivalent is preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
