Saint-Gobain Sr. Manufacturing Engineer in Bedford Park, Illinois

Under the direction of the Plant Manager and in collaboration with the Engineering Manager, the Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the design, development, specification, installation, repair and/or modification of facilities, equipment and machinery as needed to increase production, improve quality, or reduce costs.- The role will apply knowledge of engineering principles, theories, and concepts to improve the processes, products and/or equipment at the company’s facilities.- They will work with both internal resources and outside vendors and contractors to accomplish these goals.- The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will work both independently and under the direction of other staff members.-

Because of the diversity of projects, this person must have a broad knowledge of many engineering disciplines.- Civil/Structural, electrical/controls/instrumentation and, mechanical and hydraulic system knowledge are all required. .

Responsibilities

Plant Support

  • Modify and/or redesign existing plant machinery or process equipment to satisfy the needs of the company and operations.

  • Provide support to the continuous improvement initiatives throughout the plant as needed

  • Provide technical direction to other teams

  • Direct and support the evaluation of new technologies

  • Use engineering knowledge to analyze issues and develop solutions to resolve them

Capital Projects

  • Serve as Project Manager on smaller capital project

  • Direct and coordinate external and internal manpower to install and commission projects

  • Direct outside vendors and/or engineering companies to develop and implement solutions

  • Design, specify, purchase, and install various production equipment including layouts and planning of production areas.

Major Capital Projects

  • Works closely with different teams to implement larger capital projects

  • Collaborate with external engineering firms to design and construct equipment and processes

  • Collaborate with internal and contract personnel in the execution of projects

Ideation

  • Works with senior and fellow engineers to develop alternatives and options for further development of projects and products

  • Create new ways of performing work

  • Challenge status quo

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is required

  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing plant is required

  • Two years of experience-Capital Project Planning and execution-

  • Experience in PLC programming, mainly Allen Bradley, some Siemens strongly preferred

  • Experience with SCADA systems such as Factorytalk View and Ignition preferred- -

  • Ability to develop, create, justify, and implement engineering projects. -Management of Change.- -

  • Analyze & Convert manufacturing technology (i.e., convert obsolete/aged equipment to Mfg 4.0)- -

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent organizational and communications skills- -

  • Demonstrated problem solving/analytical ability.- - -

  • Project management experience- -

  • Understanding of manufacturing control systems and process automation- -

  • Able to coordinate multiple tasks and/or projects. Able work independently or as part of a larger project team- -
