The Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) is a multidisciplinary team of researchers, innovators, and scientists who lead with science to make athletes* measurably better. We deliver proven insights and state-of-the-art capabilities to drive the future of Nike products and services. The NSRL Footwear Research team conducts research that provides insights leading to innovative footwear and measurable benefits for athletes. We apply scientific and research results to drive new footwear concepts and performance hypotheses across multiple innovation teams.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

As a Nike Sport Research Lab (NSRL) Footwear Senior Researcher, you will be responsible for executing research studies (comprised of both applied and basic research) aimed at delivering proven performance insights that will lead to technologically innovative footwear that are globally relevant!

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

You will report to the Footwear Research Manager in the NSRL and work under the direction of Principal and Lead researchers on the Footwear Team. You will serve as a full time contributor to the product creation process, interacting with Researchers and Product Innovators in all phases of research to provide comprehensive support of Innovation concepts.

WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

You will participate in the execution of biomechanics research, and aid in the development of new tools, methods and procedures that will streamline data acquisition. In addition, you will become a resident expert for the biomechanical research tools used in the Nike Sport Research Lab. You will work in a collaborative environment with research teams, informing protocol design, sharing results, and discussing application of findings. You will demonstrate Nike's commitment to product performance research through attendance at scientific meetings, clinics and conferences.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • M.Sc. or M.S. in Biomechanics, or related field including Engineering, Kinesiology, Human Factors, or Ergonomics or combination of relevant education, experience and training

  • Advanced knowledge and experience with tools used to collect biomechanical data (e.g. motion capture, force plates, pressure insoles, etc.)

  • Experience writing programs in Python and/or MATLAB to analyze biomechanical data is strongly preferred

  • A detailed understanding of anatomy, biomechanical principles, experimental design and statistical procedures

  • An understanding of sport performance & injury mechanisms

  • Experience using research to directly impact consumer products and/or product creation preferred

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Good communication and people skills across audiences

  • Experience running a focused research program is a plus

  • Knowledge of footwear and the product creation processes is a plus

  • Demonstrated experience being a creative scientist – ability to apply scientific insights to performance product, and ability to problem solve are key

  • Hands-on experience working with human test subjects and/or athletes
