About This Role:
As a part of the Customer Service and Outreach team in Student Aid, the Money Management Coordinator will work closely with Financial Aid and Scholarships staff to provide information and assistance to student borrowers so they are able to make informed borrowing and repayment decisions. This position provides current and future students with information regarding available aid and financing options to our undergraduate and graduate student population. This is accomplished through a thorough understanding of Financial Aid awarding philosophy and procedures. Other duties include creating partnerships with resources for students, presenting financial literacy information, answering questions about the aid application process, explaining policies and procedures to students, parents and staff. This position maintains cohort default rate on student loans below a designated amount. Reviews the student loan status by accessing the National Student Loan Data System daily, updates demographic information on students,
verifies student enrollment and maintains student loan records.
This position also reviews the Exit Loan Counseling Report showing students who have graduated or who have left the university, researches original loan documents that students signed, conducts exit loan counseling sessions for students about to graduate ensuring students understand their loans and repayment terms. Audits exit loan counseling forms. Adhering to the established NCAA , Southland Conference, Lamar University and Texas State University System rules and regulations, the Money Management Coordinator works in a student-centered fast paced team environment educating students on debt management and ensuring the university is in compliance.
What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities
- Counsels students regarding financial aid eligibility, appropriate polices and
available funding.
- Assist students in the application process for financial aid by helping them to
complete appropriate and required forms; by advising them of their rights and
responsibilities concerning financial aid; and by providing them with
information about the status of their financial aid applications.
- Counsels students on personal financial issues to include budget planning and
debt reduction.
- Contacts graduating students during each semester to make sure they meet
federal requirements to complete Exit Counseling.
- Reports necessary information/changes via Department of Education
information systems.
- Communicates effectively and consistently with pertinent internal department
members from admissions, business cashiering and registrar, etc.
- Conducts Money Management courses and events at various times throughout
the term to educate students on their financial responsibilities.
- Creates and maintains Money Management Plan for student programming and
outreach, both internally and externally.
- Implement and evaluate default aversion strategies, and work with loan
services, guarantors, and other service providers to remedy delinquent
accounts and promote default management awareness.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Office of Student Financial Aid by
performing all other duties as assigned.

Ability to identify financial challenges or opportunities, evaluate alternatives, and make informed decisions to resolve issues or improve financial processes.
Strong communication skills to interact effectively with various stakeholders, including students, faculty, administrators, and external vendors. Ability to explain complex financial concepts in an understandable manner.
Ability to design and deliver workshops, seminars, or training sessions on financial literacy topics for students, faculty, and staff.
Physical Requirements:
Works in an office environment for 6 to 8 hours
Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment that does not subject the employee to any unpleasant elements.
Occasional lifting, pushing, climbing, and pulling may be required.
Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks.
Regularly use headphones and earpiece
Occasionally lift 10-15 pounds

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree is required.
Must be able to obtain and retain full access to NSLDS (National Student Loan Database System.
Excellent written and verbal communication and counseling skills. This includes the ability to present to groups about various programs as well as provide excellent customer service to students and their families.
Strong analytical and computer proficiency skills.
The ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure office during peak times of the year.
