TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION K082 Equipment Mechanic I- Beaumont Maintenance in Beaumont, Texas

Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in the Fleet Operations Division Shop or a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:Assists during accidents and emergency weather situations to sand bridges and roads and put up warning signs, and organize response of crews. Assists with surveying-related work. Estimates and gathers materials and equipment necessary to complete assignments. Inspects roads while en route to and from job site and reports problems to supervisors. Inspects work performed by maintenance contractors.Operates light and heavy equipment.Oversees contract workers and coordinates applicable activities. Oversees the work of designated maintenance technicians and sign technicians. Performs some maintenance and repair on equipment and trains crew members on the use of equipment.Serves as a lead worker by scheduling daily work assignments; serving as a resource for complex questions and troubleshooting of problems, presenting operational updates to the supervisor, providing input on team members' career conversations, and approving leave requests to ensure operational coverage. Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned.
