Job Details Position Summary: The Vascular Technologist is a diagnostic medical sonography professional who is qualified by professional credentialing and academic and clinical experience to provide diagnostic patient care services using ultrasound and related diagnostic procedures. The Vascular Technologist performs ultrasound examinations on patients, sets up equipment, documents patients’ complete history and explains the procedures to be performed. Prepares preliminary evaluations and communicates the results to the appropriate physician. Duties and Responsibilities: Obtains and records pertinent histories from patients, charts and computerized ultrasound reporting system. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify record and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images. Uses independent judgment during sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings. Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Completes exam data entry for each patient in computerized reporting system. Assumes responsibility for the safety and comfort of patients with in the sonographers care. Maintains a procedure log per policy Completes billing process as indicated. Participates in the maintenance of accreditation. Maintains a clean work environment. Follows infection control, regulatory and organization regulations and policies. Cleans probes according to manufacturers’ instructions after each patient, and wipes down machines after last patient of the day. Stocks exam rooms and informs supervision when stock items run low. Employee aids in the orientation of new staff, may precept students. Performs other related duties as assigned. Position Requirements and Qualifications Education: Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program or Cardiovascular Program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is required. Bachelor of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography is desirable. Preferred: Active certification by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in the specialty (ies) as appropriate (or within one year of employment or transfer). Current compliance with continuing medical education (CME) requirements for specialty (ies) as appropriate or within one year of employment. Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enhance population -specific patient care, team collaboration and analytical problem solving. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks. Detail oriented with ability to multitask and follow-through. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Ability to work with an Electronic Health Record, Practice Management and Scheduling systems. Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience working with patients in intended area of specialty. Physical Requirements: Standing, lifting, pushing and pulling needed to move equipment to different levels and areas in the department.
