Overview

This innovative company is developing cutting-edge mechatronic solutions for precision motor-control applications, including next-gen electric vehicles, autonomous systems, and advanced industrial automation. The company was recently awarded a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop next-generation electric vehicle motors and was voted one of the “ Best Places to Work in Michigan ” by Crain’s Business Detroit in 2022.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design hardware for precision motor-control applications, including electric vehicles, autonomous systems, and industrial automation.

  • Assess system and component designs to ensure they meet requirements through DFMEA and validation testing.

  • Read and interpret microprocessor and other IC datasheets.

  • Develop and manage requirements for software and hardware design engineers.

  • Coordinate technical requirements and activities with customers and suppliers.

  • Make high-level trade-offs to optimize system architecture.

  • Translate vehicle-level requirements into system requirements.

  • Generate subsystem and component allocations to meet system-level requirements.

  • Serve as a technical representative for systems and electrical requirements.

  • Track program technical deliveries to key milestones.

  • Document technical activities using various internal toolsets (e.g., Atlassian - JIRA, internal memos, supplier & customer portals).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering is required.

  • Master's Degree is preferred.

  • 10 or more years of experience in electrical product development.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

  • Strong Matlab skills are required.

  • Experience with VBA and Python scripting for custom data analysis is preferred.

  • Basic knowledge of controls, motors, controllers (hardware and software), sensors, and steering gear is required.

  • Understanding of Frequency Response Analysis, including Bode Plots, is preferred.

  • Extensive experience in electrical product development.

  • Knowledge of microcontrollers, power supply ICs, and communication protocols (SPI, SENT, CAN, etc.).

  • Understanding of chassis subsystems and components is preferred.

  • Effective interpersonal skills with internal and external customers.

  • Excellent verbal and technical communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage customer technical requirements and interface with suppliers.

  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate electrical technical activities among subsystem and component groups.

  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 Safety Standards and requirements management tools is preferred.
