Position: Engineer Intern Applicant – Engineer 5

Agency: Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority (CPRA)

Office Location: 150 Terrace Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA

For recruitment purposes, applicants who are within 90 days of graduating with an Engineering degree will be allowed to apply for this position.

This position may be filled as either a Probational or a temporary Job Appointment. If filled as a Job Appointment, t here is a possibility that this position may later be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs advanced civil engineering work in implementing an important segment, engineering and design, of the CPRA’s overall coastal restoration and flood protection program

  • Performs analysis and design work for a variety of engineering structures and systems for coastal restoration and flood protection projects as assigned

  • Participates in feasibility studies pertaining to coastal protection and restoration projects

  • Prepares preliminary and final design documents, and bid documents (design reports, cost estimates, technical specifications, construction plans and bid and permitting documents)

  • Coordinates, reviews and approves construction plans and specifications in conjunction with the technical staffs and engineering consultants involved in any specific project

As part of Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, Engineer Intern 2, Engineer 3, Engineer 4, or Engineer 5 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant. The maximum salary for the Engineer 5 is $126,256 annually.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

NOTE: This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

NOTE: Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificates are issued by the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Licensing requirements may be viewed atwww.lapels.com

NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:

To apply scholastic theory and elementary engineering skills to a variety of tasks involving standard procedures and practices in the field, office, or laboratory in order to acquire practical experience for licensure.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Close from a higher-level engineer.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Functional supervision may be exercised over Engineering Technicians.

LOCATION OF WORK:

May be used by all state agencies.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from Engineering Technicians and other related jobs by the presence of responsibility for applying engineering principles under close supervision.

Differs from Engineer Intern 1 by the absence of a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.

Examples of Work

Provides engineering support and technical guidance for the implementation of coastal restoration and flood protection projects within the Louisiana Coastal Zone.

Performs in-house civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and hydraulic dredging design, including the development of engineering design reports, design calculations, construction plans and specifications, construction cost estimates, and construction durations.

Assists in the project construction bid phase, including contract document preparation, participation in pre-bid meetings, resolving questions during the construction bid advertisement process, and participating in the evaluation of bids received and the construction award recommendation.

Provides construction administration support to field offices during the implementation and construction of restoration and flood protection projects.

Provides engineering assistance in the project environmental permitting process.
