Job Summary:
As the Director of Finance, you will manage all accounting aspects of the business and support in driving the financial strategy and planning. You will assess financial performance, assisting with all the accounting and control functions including all revenue and expense reporting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and monthly financial reporting requirements. This role reports to a Director in Canada and leads a team of 4 (2 locally in Lafayette and 2 in Alaska). This very multifaced role requires someone able to be flexible and alright with being reactionary vs being proactive due to the nature of the business. This position is hybrid within the local Lafayette area or able to commute within a reasonable distance by vehicle to Lafayette (ideally within an hour). The role will work from home the majority of the time and in the Lafayette office a couple times every other week and definitely through month-end closing. Relocation assistance will be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains timely and accurate financial documents and reports that are appropriate for the users and in accordance with best accepted accounting principles
Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
Reviews monthly results and implements monthly variance reporting
Implements policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation
Establishes guidelines for budget and forecast preparation, and supports preparation of the annual budget and forecasts in consultation with regional Vice President
Develop a strong understanding of the contracts within the sector and support the operations and the finance team in financial oversight of these contracts
Supports all management reporting that happens during and post the period end including reports on the P&L, inventory, AR, AP, and other sector specific analytical and reconciliatory reports
Lead and mentor a team finance & accounting resources that support the sector
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University in Accounting or Finance required
Master’s degree or CPA required
Confirmed experience in running financial operations across multiple contracts, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents
Ability to optimally present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
Strong critical thinking skills to identify and address issues, gather information, and arrive at well-founded conclusions.
Detail orientation and ability to analyze data, trends and processes.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and take care of several abstract and concrete variables
Strong experience with SAP, Excel, Power Point and Access
Strong organization and time management skills are vital to manage and complete multiple and shifting priorities/projects with accuracy and timeliness
Strong professional and interpersonal skills as well as written communication skills
May travel 2-4 times per year to Houston/Toronto
Must have experience supporting financials for at least $120 million in annual revenue
