Summary Nestled in the southern part of the Finger Lakes in Upstate New York, The Bath VA Medical Center is seeking a Dentist to function as the Associate Chief of Dental. This position will report directly to the Chief of Dental, and will be responsible for the day to day operations of the Dental Clinic in Bath, NY. The Bath VAMC is a level 3 complexity hospital that boasts a robust Primary and Specialty Care, Domiciliary, Community Living Center, and Acute Care hospital beds. Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Duties Include: Working with Dental Chief for planning, developing, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the clinical services of the Dental Service Line. Performing wide-range and higher-level management functions through participation in planning and oversight boards, councils, and committees. Responsible for helping to oversee Dental clinic operations. This responsibility includes supervision of Dental Staff members at the Bath VA Dental Clinic. The incumbent collaborates with clinical and administrative operations and program/section managers to ensure integrated goals and priorities for Dental are established and met. The incumbent also works closely with peers in other services and management to meet the needs of the System's recognized internal and external customer groups. Ensures that department expenditures are within allocated budget and ensures that department supplies, equipment, etc., are ordered and purchased. Ensures that the department adheres to accreditation requirements. Ensures that staff maintains licensure. Under the direction of the Dental Chief, assigns work to subordinates, approves leave, prepares performance plans, administers discipline, resolves grievances and complaints, and provides training and awards. Initiates Human Resources actions for vacant positions, interviews and selects candidates alongside the Dental Chief. Perform managerial duties including assisting with determining staffing needs, creating position descriptions, job assessments and provision of training. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, Full time Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Contract Buy Out Program: This position may be eligible for the Physician / Provider Contract Buy Out Program (CBOP), which authorizes VHA to buy out service contracts (Locum agreements, loan repayments, sign-on bonus contracts, Physician-owned practices) in exchange for employment at certain rural or highly rural facilities for a period of obligated service (minimum 4 years). Qualifications Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Dentist Basic Requirements A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA), in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. AND Completed, or you are currently completing, a residency program in general practice or specialty, or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients. AND Currently hold, or will hold, a current, full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Note: Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Preferred Experience: Minimum of 5 years experience supervising staff that includes Dentists, Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants and Dental Lab Technicians.
