JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the bus monitor will assist in the safe transport of assigned passengers. The bus monitor may be assigned to one or more passengers. The bus monitor is expected to assist as needed in the event of an emergency.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

Regulatory and Corporate Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations.

  • Ensure all trainings required by The Arc Allegany-Steuben are completed as required.

    Financial Management

  • NA

    Program Management:

  • Develop effective relationships with the bus driver and program staff to promote a positive team environment.

  • Assist people with entering and leaving the bus.

  • Assist with monthly fire drills as applicable.

  • Make sure all reports are written accurately and handed in on a timely basis according to agency policies. Examples would include incident and seizure reports.

  • Help people in wheelchairs board and disembark from the bus. This would include safe use of a wheelchair lift and securement aides equipped with the bus.

  • Make sure seatbelts are always worn. Report any concerns to the driver and program staff.

    Person Centered Services

  • Apply the principles of Person-Centered thinking to service delivery.

  • Work to develop positive relationships with the people supported.

  • Be aware of the health and safety needs of persons that have been assigned.

  • Notify other staff of any potential issues such as illness or agitation that is out of the ordinary.

    Physical Plant and Safety

  • Maintain an environment that encourages and facilitates optimal personal development.

  • Practices standard precautions and other appropriate infection control practices.

  • Notify bus driver and program staff of any safety concerns in relation to passengers or equipment.

    Contacts with Others

  • Communicate with all internal and external partners in a professional manner

  • Use effective communication skills to establish collaborative relationships with passengers, the bus driver, program staff, and as applicable family members of passengers.

  • Exhibit professional behavior and relationships; showing respect for diversity and inclusion

  • Develop and maintain customer relationships, troubleshooting and handling sensitive situations.

    Additional Functions

  • Attend meetings for person’s supported (passengers) as requested to solve problems, brainstorm approaches, etc.

  • The person in this position has basic Microsoft Word skills, and the ability to complete documentation as requested.

  • The person in this position can interact with a wide range of people and demonstrate the ability to problem solve on the spot.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

  • Up to one year experience working with people with Intellectual/Developmental disabilities.

  • CPR/First Aid/AED instruction and SCIP Certification within the first six months of hire

    ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to ride a bus for at least 2 hours at a time.

  • Where position requires driving:

  • Valid driver’s license for the state in which the person resides.

  • Acceptable safe driving record

  • Where position requires driving individuals served by the Agency:

  • Motor vehicle with up-to-date inspection, that is registered and insured

  • Will be required to enroll in LENS (Licensed Event Notification System).

    AUTHORITY AND ACCOUNTABILITY:

    People: This position functions with general supervision, most work is subject to check. Provides services directly to the people we support. This is not a supervisory position.

    Operations: This position follows standard agency policies and procedures. This position works with the bus driver and program staff.

    Budget: This position does not have any oversight of the budget. This position is expected to follow Agency policy and procedures in all areas that may impact the budget.
