Overview

TITLE: Social Services Provider

DEPARTMENT: Batavia Corps

REPORTS TO: Corps Officer

SUPERVISES: N/A

STATUS: Non-Exempt

SCHEDULE: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9AM-3PM(18 hours per week-normal schedule) Hours may vary occasionally due to food deliveries, social service events (Up to 20 hours approved)

FUNCTION:Receive and process incoming calls, make appointment, intake and processing of financial assistance requests as well as food pantry requests, and assist with pick-up and intake of donations for the Food Pantry.

Responsibilities

DUTIES: (To include but not limited to)

  • Answer incoming telephone calls, answering inquiries and directing calls as necessary

  • Schedule appointments for clients and assist in maintaining the appointment schedule book

  • Listen to and write down answering machines messages and distribute messages as appropriate

  • Data entry, record keeping and management of digital files for client records

  • Greet and assist clients and others coming into the assistance offices

  • Fill and distribute food orders for clients as appropriate according to household sizes and product availability

  • Intake and processing of financial assistance requests

  • Keep track of pantry needs, relay needs to supervisor, assist with organization of food pantry supplies after pickup

  • Tracking and compiling of monthly social service statistics to be given to Corps Officer

  • Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly office and pantry area

  • Assist with seasonal effort scheduling and data entry

  • Other related duties as requested by the Corps Officers

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn and utilize additional computer applications

  • Experience in office work, social services and/or pantry operations preferred

  • Ability to read and communicate proficiently in the English language

  • Ability to work well with staff, volunteers, clients and other members of the community

  • Ability to maintain a pleasant demeanor under stress or with difficult persons

  • Understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s work and mission

  • Acknowledgment and acceptance of the provisions of The Salvation Army Employee Handbook

  • Ability and willingness to pass background checks and clearance for work with minors
