Job Description

Purpose

Responsible for Process and Project Engineering support, project management, utilities, and equipment optimization. Lead the Process/Project engineering team in the support to manufacturing operation and capital planning generation and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Project definition, request capital expenditure (RCE) development, engineering cost estimate, design, project plan integration, construction, commissioning, qualification, and startup.

  • Manage and lead the implementation of the Capital Plan and LRP. Support the capital planning process for major investments in Facilities/Utilities/Equipment.

  • Accountable for all processes, policies and procedures related to Capital and Facilities Planning, Engineering Best practices and Systems and the Engineering Center of Excellence and regulatory agencies regulations and requirements.

  • Define and document expectations related to Good Engineering Practice and Project Execution Methodology while tracking project execution for targeted projects and report performance metrics.

  • Develop strategic Long-Range Planning (LRP) related to capacity, pipeline technology assessment, facility asset utilization, and capital investments.

  • Accountable for the daily supervision of process/project engineers, engineering technicians, CAD operators and contractors for field engineering resources, as applicable. Mentor engineering staff and serve as a project technical leader.

  • Manage expense budget, including outside contractor and engineering services. Manage outside engineering firm’s contracts for the design and engineering of large and/or specialized projects. Assure contractor performance and their compliance with AbbVie and regulatory agencies regulations and requirements.

  • Assure that the required engineering and commissioning documents are filed in the Technical Documentation Library.

  • Manage Engineering Change Management process. Ensures that engineering changes are managed in accordance with the Quality Policies and Change Review Board.

  • “Assure fulfillments of environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements and compliance obligations, promote continuous improvement, and consider EHS aspects during the design and change process.”

Significant work activities:

  • Continuous sitting for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hr day) is required

  • Continuous standing for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hr day) is required

  • Continuous walking for prolonged periods (more than 2 consecutive hours in an 8 hr day) is required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Science, Engineering preferred. Master's Degree preferred. Minimum of eight (8) years of significant engineering and/or operational experience is required.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience managing direct reports is required.

  • Strong Engineering lead role experience in the Pharma industry. High technical knowledge in Bulk Substance and Drug product facilities in the field of Process/Project Engineering and Project Management.

  • Technical background in medical devices, pharmaceutical, or biotechnology industries is highly preferred.

  • Demonstrated consistent technical contributions and accomplishments. Significant contribution to product or process development or improvement through creative application of technical effort will equally be recognized.

  • Strong technical knowledge and application of concepts, practices, and procedures. Experience working on problems of complex scope where analysis of situations or data involves multiple competing factors. Exercises judgment and advises management as to the appropriate actions.

  • Able to interact and communicate with Senior Management and other groups within AbbVie engineering network and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and collaborators.

  • Has demonstrated competency with financial systems and in fiscal control.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in both English and Spanish

  • Computer literate including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
