The Office of Academic Affairs, University Recreation and Fitness (URecFit) in the SMC Campus Center has an opportunity for a Recreation & Fitness Senior Assistant Director of Business & Fitness.This position develops, enhances, and guides campus wide fitness programming, facility operation procedures and department business administration. This position provides expectations for professional staff and assists in their personal and professional development through goal setting and accountability. The Senior Assistant Director is recognized as an expert and operates with substantial latitude for un-reviewed action or decision. The position reports to the Associate Director of the department. URecFit provides comprehensive programs that support student and staff engagement, lifelong learning opportunities, and positive lifestyle changes that embrace and foster the mission of UMB. Provides opportunities for participation, involvement, learning, leadership, and development. Continues to promote and foster a sense of campus community and campus-centeredness within UMB. /This position rotates “professional on call” and may supervise campus recreation facilities and staff on designated evenings weekends and holidays. Primary Duties * Independently manage the day-to-day activities and operational components of URecFit and Wellness’ fitness programs and supervision of business operations. * Supervise at least one full time staff. * Responsible for coordinating regular maintenance, preventative maintenance and operations of URecFit & Wellness fitness equipment and facilities. * Hire, train and supervise fitness floor staff, group exercise instructors and personal trainers. Coordinate logistics, scheduling, and communications for fitness programs. * Evaluate operational effectiveness to develop and implement new or improved methods and processes for fitness related staff and programs. * Collaborate with UMB academic programs to create co-curricular fitness programs and opportunities for UMB students. * Coordinate program, participation and client assessments. * Provide input in the development and coordinate initiatives in student and staff development, training, evaluation and recognition programs. * Maintain and follow up on all safety issues, accident, incident, and workplace injury reports. * Create risk management plans and audits. * Support the assistant director with managing URecFit and Wellness business operations which includes the oversight of the business office, revenue collections, daily deposits, payroll deductions processes, maintaining business and enterprise compliance for the business & fiscal operations, and making regular business decisions that impact the department. * Assist director and associate director with development and execution of URecFit & Wellness’ strategic fitness, membership and business plans. * Provide advanced administrative, programming and operational support to the URecFit & Wellness and leadership teams. * Proactively represents the department and the Division of Student Affairs through participation in campus meetings, special projects, and committees. * Performs other duties as assigned. Education:Bachelor's degree in Exercise Sciences, Recreation, Fitness Management, Sports Management, Kinesiology, Health Education, Management Sciences, Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, or closely related field. Experience:Four (4) years of progressively working in recreation/fitness centers, business operations, membership sales, or appropriate field. Experience working with college students or in a higher education environment is preferred. Supervisory Experience:Two (2) years of work coordinator or direct supervision of fitness employee, personal trainers and/or group exercise instructors. Certification/Licensure:CPR and AED certification required or willingness to obtain once hired. Nationally recognized fitness certification required.
