The Suez Lab for Systems Microbiology is seeking a full-time Research Technologist . The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to multiple projects in the lab related to the role of the human microbiome in metabolic, infectious, neurocognitive, and autoimmune diseases. The individual will receive training in the relevant lab protocols, and will be responsible for performing animal experiments, in vitro microbiological, immunological, and cell culture assays, and preparation of biological samples for metabolomics and RNA or DNA sequencing. Specific duties & responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be initially trained in the above listed range of techniques and sterile technique, which will enable the technician to perform basic lab responsibilities and also contribute to research in the lab.

  • The successful candidate will then have the opportunity to contribute to an independent research project, which would involve work with mouse models of metabolic, infectious, autoimmune, and neurocognitive diseases, flow cytometry, plate reader-based assays, and basic cell culture techniques.

Research-Related Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory tasks and complete routine assays following established lab protocols and procedures.

  • Operate standard laboratory equipment.

  • Train users in standard equipment operation and routine lab techniques and procedures.

  • Gain scientific skills through constructive guidance: problem solving skills through progressive training, ability to interpret results, increase personal skill set through knowledge of lab research and relevant assays, written and oral communication skills.

  • Analyze data and generate graphs and summaries of data obtained.

  • Present and discuss results with the faculty investigator and other lab members.

  • Attend and participate in lab meetings and joint lab meetings.

Additional responsibilities may include, but are not limited to

  • Laboratory equipment maintenance, dishwashing, sterilizing laboratory supplies, and media preparation.

  • Preparation of standard laboratory solutions, media, and reagents following standard laboratory protocols and procedures.

  • Monitor inventory of general laboratory supplies and place orders when needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

  • Some related post-undergraduate work experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior post-baccalaureate laboratory wet-lab research experience.

Role/Level/Range: ACRO40/E/02/CC

Starting Salary Range: $15.50 - $26.00 HRLY ($42,120 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
