Housing mobility programs are designed to address systematic discrimination in the housing market by helping low-income families move from high poverty neighborhoods into lower poverty, better resourced neighborhood. The MOVED (Mobility Opportunity Vouchers to Eliminate Disparities) Study is designed to test whether helping families move changes adult and child health. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Department of Health Policy & Management is seeking Research Assistants (RA) in Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Nashville who will assist with tasks on the MOVED Study.

Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr. Craig Pollack, and the Program Coordinator, Rachel Deitch, we are seeking a Research Assistant who will support the MOVED project by recruiting families and collecting data. Research assistants will be responsible for independently scheduling appointments and making reminder/confirmation calls. At the time of the appointment, RA’s will complete survey interviews from one adult and one child in the family home. In addition, the data collection will include taking measures of participants height, weight, waist circumference, blood pressure, and a finger stick for diabetes.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Meet weekly (virtually) with project staff and provide regular recruitment and completion updates.

  • Maintain a good working knowledge of recruitment and participant consent protocols.

  • Recruit participants into research study and schedule visits. Interviews may occur at night and on weekends.

  • Conduct survey interviews with one adult and one child per household and enter data collected into an online research database.

  • Complete anthropometric data collection (height, weight, and waist circumference)

  • Complete additional data collection to study biomarkers, which includes taking participants blood pressure and an A1C finger stick blood test.

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Be able to demonstrate cultural competency when interacting with racial and ethnic populations.

  • Physical Requirements.

  • Participants must be able to lift and carry approximately 25 pounds of equipment, including a tablet, height and weight scales, and a blood pressure monitor.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related discipline.

  • Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working within a research setting, preferably with field experience or engaging and recruiting participants.

  • Previous experience engaging participants from diverse backgrounds.

  • An interest and experience in housing, neighborhood factors, and/or food policy preferred.
