Job Description

Danfoss is seeking an experienced and highly detail-oriented Human Resources Compliance Manager to join our growing HR team. This key role will be responsible for ensuring that all HR practices, processes, and policies across our North and South American operations comply with local laws, regulations, and best practices, with a focus on North American operations. This includes overseeing HR compliance for both hourly and salaried employee populations across a wide range of US states, Canada, as well as international jurisdictions in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile.

The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with HR business partners, legal teams, and regional leaders to ensure compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, employee rights, reporting and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Compliance Manager will assess training needs for compliance topics across our HR Shared Services structure and implement programs to address them effectively. This position will work remotely in US or in Mexico with a preference to US. The Compliance Manager will report to the HR Services Program Manager.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Ensure that all HR policies, procedures, and practices in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile adhere to local, regional, and federal regulations.

  • Stay up to date with federal, state, and local labor laws in the US, as well as international labor regulations in each of the countries of operation, including changes in regulations and best practices.

  • Lead audits to ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, labor standards, tax laws, employee benefits, and immigration regulations in multiple jurisdictions.

  • Collaborate with legal and finance departments to ensure adherence to labor laws, tax requirements, and other regulations.

HR Policy Development & Implementation

  • Develop, update, and implement HR policies and processes that are aligned with local laws in each jurisdiction and global best practices.

  • Conduct regular reviews of HR programs, policies, and compliance documentation to ensure consistency across regions and alignment with changing regulations.

Cross-Border Compliance :

  • Oversee HR compliance matters for international operations in US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile, ensuring compliance with local employment laws in these countries.

  • Provide guidance to HR teams in these regions on best practices related to regulatory and compliance needs, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and performance management.

Compliance Training & Education:

  • Identify compliance-related training needs across the HR Shared Services structure.

  • Develop, deliver, and track training programs for HR teams and managers on regulatory topics such as wage and hour laws, anti-discrimination, workplace harassment, data protection, and benefits.

  • Partner with Learning, Development, and Work Transformation teams to create a culture of continuous compliance education.

Audit & Risk Management:

  • Lead regular internal audits to assess HR compliance across different regions and business units, identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions.

  • Manage internal and external audits by regulatory bodies and ensure proper documentation and responses are provided.

  • Assist with risk assessments related to HR compliance and implement strategies to mitigate risks associated with non-compliance.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all compliance-related documentation and training for internal and external reporting purposes.

  • Provide regular compliance reports to HR leadership and key stakeholders, including risk analysis and mitigation strategies.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:

  • Work closely with HR leaders, legal counsel, and other departments to resolve compliance-related issues and ensure HR practices support business goals.

  • Serve as the point of contact for HR compliance questions across North and South America, providing expert guidance to HR and business leaders.

The ideal candidate possesses these skills.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Law School, or related fields. Master’s degree or certification in HR or compliance is a plus.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in human resources compliance, with a focus on multi-state US, Canada. A strong understanding of HR compliance in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile highly preferred.

  • Proven experience in US and Canada HR compliance management for both salaried and hourly employee populations.

  • Strong understanding of labor laws, wage and hour regulations, benefits administration, and employee relations across the US and Canada. Having a knowledge of labor laws in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile highly preferred.

  • Experience with HR Shared Services structures and familiarity with HR technology and systems used for compliance tracking and reporting.

  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations in the US and Canada. Familiarity with employment laws in Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile is highly preferred.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate complex legal and compliance issues to non-legal stakeholders.

  • High attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and manage complex compliance challenges across multiple jurisdictions.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, analytical, solution-oriented mindset.

  • Experience working in a multi-national, multi-cultural, multi-time zone matrixed organization.

  • A self-starter who is focused on achieving results, not just identifying issues. Able to challenge the status quo constructively and drive positive change.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in Spanish and/ or Portuguese is highly preferred.

  • Familiarity with HR compliance systems and tools, including compliance tracking software.
