Johns Hopkins University Genomics Education Lead - Assistant Research Scientist in Baltimore, Maryland

Job Description:

Join the C-MOOR project ( https://www.c-moor.org ) and help transform genomics education by providing early research experiences for the next generation of data scientists. Our team is focused on integrating genomic data science into the curriculum, ensuring students gain hands-on research experience regardless of their institutional affiliation. As the Genomics Education Lead, you will create lessons, support instructors, and assess the impact of CUREs covering areas such as soil metagenomics ( http://biodigs.gdscn.org ) and transcriptomics ( https://science.c-moor.org/miniCURE-RNA-seq ) that will be used at JHU and our partners at 2- and 4-year institutions. This position is at the Assistant Research Scientist level and funded for two years, with additional employment contingent upon securing further funding

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) by collaborating with instructors as part of the BioDIGS soil biodiversity project

  • Support academic and research partners with ongoing offerings of the RNA-seq miniCURE

  • Assess program effectiveness through feedback and data analysis

    Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent in Biology or related fields

  • Demonstrated background in genomic data science

  • Strong knowledge of the R programming language

  • Excellent communication and project management skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with educational and research partners

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Metagenomics data analysis of 16S rRNA or whole shotgun sequencing

  • Familiarity with educational technology and open educational resources

  • Understanding of assessment strategies

  • Mentorship of diverse populations, especially instructors unfamiliar with technical material
