Johns Hopkins University Assistant/Associate Professor in Language, Culture, and Education in Baltimore, Maryland
The expected base pay salary range for this position is $99,692 - $179,905.
The referenced salary range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. This salary range does not include all components of the School of Education's faculty compensation program or pay from participation in the School of Education's incentive compensation programs. The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) School of Education (SOE) invites applications for an assistant or associate, tenured/tenure-track faculty position in Language, Culture, and Education with a start date of July 1, 2025.
The successful applicant will be a globally-oriented scholar with a strong background in language acquisition and the learning sciences, English as a foreign language instruction, applied linguistics, language learning and technology/AI, education of refugee and immigrant youth, language and education policy, intercultural communication, or a related area who will contribute to the continued development of the Teaching English as a Foreign Language focus area within the International Teaching and Global Leadership Cohort (ITGL) master's program. We seek a scholar who conducts rigorous empirical research with the intention to influence policy and inform language teaching and learning in diverse educational and community contexts . Successful candidates will also contribute to instructional efforts in other School of Education programs as well as collaborative and interdisciplinary research across the School and University.
ITGL Cohort program prepares innovative, global education leaders to transform schools, systems, and other fast-changing learning environments around the world. In the full-time, 3 or 4 semester, on-campus program, ITGL students develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and applied learning experiences required to provide innovative, future-ready education for all learners in diverse settings. The curriculum is learner-centered, project- and team-based, supporting the SOE's mission to generate knowledge to inform policy and practice and educate society to address the most important challenges faced by individuals, schools, and communities.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Conducting original research to assemble a record of scholarly publications in line with a tenured appointment at a major research university.
The development of independent, externally-funded research
Mentoring graduate students and supervising doctoral dissertations
Teaching and advising students in ITGL as well as other School of Education programs in the areas of language acquisition, language and culture, language assessment and related areas.
Leading the Teaching English as Foreign Language focus area in the ITGL program.
Collaborating with others for the good of the School, University, and local and global communities

Required qualifications include:
By the position start date of July 1, 2025, candidates will possess a doctorate (Phd/EdD)
Outstanding record of scholarship and research productivity consistent with rank
Demonstrated excellence in teaching to diverse learners.
Demonstrated work as a collegial, collaborative team member.
Preferred qualifications include:
Global and international experience such as teaching English in global contexts, work with international students, or prior study, research, or work in international contexts.
Experience writing and securing grant funding
Curriculum development related to language acquisition, teaching, communication, and culture
Partnership development with local and/or global organizations
Salary: Assistant Professor: $99,692 - $145,634, Associate Professor: $123,002 - $179,905

Salary Range
The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
