As part of the Doctoral and Postdoctoral Life Design team within Integrative Learning and Life Design (IILD), the Assistant Director reports to the Director, of Employer Partnerships and Experiential Learning. Success will be measured against clear Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) and Objectives and Key Results (OKRS), aligning with the broader goals of the department and the university. This role is expected to be a key contributor to the advancement of diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring opportunities are available for students across all schools we serve. The role is expected to engage and liaise with alumni, students, postdocs, university leadership, faculty, and department administrators.

The Assistant Director will play a key role in the expansion of employer partnerships and experiential learning. This role will primarily manage the new doctoral and postdoctoral job shadow program, focusing on expanding job shadow opportunities and ensuring successful student placements. Additionally, the position will be instrumental in executing employer engagements, experiential learning, and fostering strong partnerships to enhance overall program effectiveness.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Forge strategic partnerships with employers and alumni to significantly increase high-quality job shadow opportunities, facilitating a smooth and effective matching process between students/postdocs and ideal opportunities.

  • Strategically expand job shadow partnerships to create additional internship and project-based opportunities.

  • Serve as the key point of contact and account manager for both partners and participants, ensuring exceptional experiences throughout each engagement and a positive experience for students and postdocs.

  • Facilitate and manage a seamless matching process for students and postdocs, aligning them with ideal job shadow opportunities, projects, and internships to ensure successful placements.

  • Collaborate and contribute to the success of key employer engagements, including signature events, industry career days, employer showcases, and employer treks.

  • Engage with key internal and external stakeholders to grow access, awareness, and participation in experiential learning.

  • Drive digital engagement strategy including leveraging social media and other platforms to share programming and engage with employers.

  • Collect, analyze, and leverage data to assess the impact of employer engagement, experiential learning, events, and other outcomes. Use these insights to refine strategies and continuously improve.

  • Assists on special projects and engagements.

  • For remote positions, occasional travel of up to 10% may be required to foster employer relationships and attend key meetings and events.

Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to support the growth of partnerships and assist with contract negotiations, demonstrating problem-solving skills to overcome challenges and ensure positive partnership outcomes.

  • Experience with Qualtrics for designing and conducting surveys, collecting feedback, and analyzing responses.

  • Familiarity with CRM systems and project management software.

  • Proficiency in utilizing social media platforms creatively to boost engagement, influence public perception, and further institutional goals.

  • Strong time management skills to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

  • Experience in engaging and maintaining relationships with various stakeholders, including internal teams, external partners, and students.

  • Strong customer service skills to ensure positive experiences for all participants and partners.

  • The ability to listen actively and communicate compellingly, both in written and verbal formats.

  • Commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement, ensuring that all aspects of the program meet ambitious standards of excellence.

  • Capacity for strategic thinking to develop long-term plans and align program activities with organizational goals.

  • Proven skills in networking, negotiation, and building strong partnerships.

  • Ability to work effectively within a team, providing guidance and support to colleagues and collaborators.

  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, ensuring these values are upheld in all professional interactions and partnerships.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills to coordinate various aspects of the program, ensuring timely and efficient execution.

  • Proficiency with Excel for data management, analysis, and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.

  • Five years related experience, preferably in career services, human resources, and/or recruiting.

  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
