The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes, across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: This position is the crew leader level of maintenance or construction work on facilities such as bridges, buildings, bulkheads, highways, parking areas, piers, railroads, ramps, roads, taxiways, tunnels, or adjacent areas of the Maryland Department of Transportation. Duties for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Overseeing the work of the unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled work crews at each phase of a project;
Ensuring all materials and equipment are used correctly;
Ensuring the work is carried out in a timely manner consistent with MDTA's specific and standard procedures;
Leading lower-level Facilities Maintenance Technicians; and
Performing preventive maintenance inspections of specialized areas and features located throughout the facility.
The current vacancy is a night shift position with the hours of 6:30 PM – 5:00 AM.
Incumbents receive general supervision from a Facility Maintenance Supervisor or other designated official. This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion, which is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside an MDOT building. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds and may also be required to work at high elevations or perform their job in cramped quarters in buildings or underground. Employees in this class are considered essential employees and are subject to call-in 24 hours a day, as may be required to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees may be required to work rotating shift work, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
The current vacancy is located at the Fort McHenry Tunnel facility in Baltimore, MD. The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies at other facilities and/or other shifts, throughout the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance, or skilled trades work.

Work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
U.S Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year- for-year basis.
Licenses & Certifications
- Applicants must possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), valid in the State of Maryland. Applicants must list the license Class, Number and Expiration Date on the application. The possession and maintenance of the Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL), valid in the state of Maryland, may be required for continued employment. This includes obtaining and maintaining a valid US DOT Medical Card (or MVA-issued waiver) every two years.
Note: Employees must meet all Department of Budget and Management policies required for operation of State-owned vehicle.
Candidates and promotional employees hired into the Facility Maintenance Technician IV classification may be required to satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements during the probationary period.
Employees may be required to satisfy the employing administration's training and certification program requirements to obtain and maintain permanent status in this classification.
Employees seeking transfer to another administration may be required to satisfy that administration's training and certification program requirements.
Additional Information
Applicants may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform maintenance on high structures and in cramped quarters in tunnels, underground and in buildings.
Employees must be willing and available for duty at such hours, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous and safe operation of a facility. Employees are subject to being on call 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link at their own expense for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.
Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium, may be required to undergo periodic medical testing, pass hazardous materials training, and have the ability to wear a respirator.
Employees in this classification are considered "Essential Employees" and may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to "Essential Employee" status.
Candidates will be subject to pre-employment drug testing in accordance with the Transportation Code of Maryland Regulations 11.02.11, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
