Job Title: Senior Manager Financial Operations

Department: Penn Medicine Medical Group- Regional Physicians

Location: Penn Medicine Hospice- 150 Monument Road

Hours: Full Time

Summary:

  • The Senior Manager Financial Operations reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer or Chief Operating Officer or Controller. This role is responsible for monthly, quarterly, and annual financial operation activities which include monthly financial statement preparation, reconciliation of inter-entity transfers, development of the annual budget, allocation of expenses, and management of the cash and accounts payable functions. Also responsible for physician and practice level reporting. This position is also responsible for the development of monthly financial information which is communicated to entity and UPHS leadership. This position implements and oversees efficient customer-focused financial processes and systems which are designed to align with the future needs of the Finance department.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of monthly financial statement package which includes variance review and comments for the monthly financial statements. This is done on a consolidated basis. Presents financial data, provides explanations, and communicates data to relative stakeholders.

  • Oversees monthly financial reporting and variance processes for the department. This includes a review of income statements and balance sheets.

  • Preparation of annual operating budgets and current-year projections. This includes working with Hyperion Planning. Provide information to Department leadership in the development and implementation of operating budgets. Centrally manage all Hyperion budget reporting/roll up/balancing.

  • Active involvement in reporting of bottom-line support and inter-entity transactions and funds flow accounting. Direct interface with leadership for IET reconciliation; monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc.

  • • Maintain relationship with Procurement team so that Finance and Operations work closely to resolve ordering and process issues so that expense is not adversely affected and that policies are adhered to.

  • Managing miscellaneous accounts receivable, accounts payable, and purchasing functions. Authorize all purchase orders and check requests. Complete authorization for substantial purchase orders or check requests per department guidelines.

  • Responsible for the accounting for UPHS primary care value-based payer agreements.

  • Accountable for having financial statements and statistical results accurately and consistently prepared and reported in conformity with general accounting principles and in accordance with Penn Medicine’s policies and procedures. Maintain working knowledge of the respective Hospital and Physician Entity relationships as part of ongoing financial operations.

  • Serves as point of contact for IETs -Inter Entity Transfers (both revenue and expense) other inter entity Journal transfers, etc.

  • Development of Practice PLs and training of Finance and Operational teams in the various financial systems: PennFor, Hyperion, Essbase, etc.

  • Accountable for maintaining proper control over inventory.

  • Works collaboratively with other Penn Medicine Entity Finance teams on a monthly basis.

  • Reviews, analyzes, and updates practice financial and statistical reports and proactively addresses variances by working with Directors of Operation and Practice Managers.

  • Calculate and maintain key performance indicators on a regular basis. Provide physician productivity data as it relates to benchmarks, historical data, etc.

  • Maintain GL security and access for the department.

  • Ensure proper individuals have the necessary access to the reporting systems that they need. Confidential data is safeguarded.

  • Supervision and hiring of Accounting/Finance staff.

  • Performs duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures

  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization

Credentials:

Education or Equivalent Experience:

  • Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required) Education Specialization:Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related discipline

  • 6+ years progressive experience in general accounting and/or budgeting is required; health system or an academic medical center related experience preferred.

  • Master of Arts or Science (Preferred) Education Specialization:Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related discipline
