Summary:

Reporting to the Hospice System Director is responsible for the clinical operations of Penn Medicine's multi-branch hospice program, including planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating all clinical operations in PA and NJ. This essential position is responsible for patient care, clinical outcomes, patient and family satisfaction, and regulatory compliance of the Penn Medicine Hospice Program. The Operations Director works closely with the Hospice Systems Director to ensure hospice growth, regulatory compliance, revenue success, and application of technology. The Operations Director supervises and cultivates the development and performance of all direct report Hospice Team Managers and their direct reports to ensure program success.

Responsibilities:

• Plans, directs, and evaluates Penn Medicine's regional hospice operations' quality-assured, clinically excellent, compliant, cost-effective, and consumer-satisfied operations.

• Leads in the development and oversight of a Hospice Interprofessional Shared Governance Council.

• Develops and holds accountable an effective leadership level that manages each Team Manager's clinical service, regulatory compliance, fiscal management, business development, and human resource operations.

• Facilitates Hospice operations through appropriate departmentalization and delegation of duties per the approved organizational structure.

• Charges and holds accountable Team Managers with continuous, collaborative teamwork that supports quality-assured, clinically excellent, compliant, cost-effective, and consumer-satisfied hospice operations within each Team/Branch.

• Ensures a state of continuous survey readiness as well as compliance with Medicare Conditions of Participation, TJC, and State Regulations in collaboration with the Hospice Regulatory Compliance Officer and Director of Regulatory Compliance and Guest Services.

• Participates in developing hospice program goals and objectives under the direction of the Hospice System Director in accordance with the mission of Penn Medicine.

• Contributes to Hospice quality assessment performance improvement activities in conjunction with the Hospice Manager of Quality, focusing on patient satisfaction, transitions in care, and clinical excellence.

• Participates in the development of new Hospice-related programs and services. Works collaboratively with the Hospice Business Development team to develop new referral sources. Establishes and maintains referral source relationships, ensuring continuity of care across the referral network.

• Directs the execution of Penn Medicine's hospice strategies to promote growth, viability, and service integration within the marketplace.

• Serves as liaison between physicians, community agencies, social service departments, nursing homes, acute care facilities, and home care agencies.

• Participates in the negotiation and coordination of contractual agreements with pharmacies, DME companies, long-term care facilities, and supplemental services.

• Works closely with the Hospice Medical Director to ensure program synergy, excellent clinical practice standards, and ease of transition for patients and families.

• Participates in the identification and development of new and revised Hospice programs and services in order to maintain and enhance current and future state market share.

• Participates in the development of the hospice operating budget and assures financial success and viability by closely monitoring expenses and revenues. Collaborates closely with the finance team to ensure financial goals are met.

• Oversees the recruitment, choice, and promotion of hospice personnel, ensuring that qualified staff are hired.

• Collaborates with the Hospice Professional Development Specialist regarding employee orientation and competency program to ensure that employees and volunteers are oriented, trained, and supervised, as well as ensures the completion of annual training and supervision programs.

• Maintains and promotes an open, collaborative, and supportive environment.

• Utilizes statistical and cost data for operational decisions. Reports on variances and progressive and measurable corrective action planning. Directs changes to effect continual fiscal efficiencies.

• Ensures that Hospice-related policies are consistent with corporate policy. Provides oversight regarding policy questions and exceptions to policy.

• Develops and maintains excellent relationships within all levels of Penn Medicine's leadership. Works collaboratively as a member of senior leadership to integrate and support overall operations and strategies.

• Responsible for keeping current with market trends, anticipated federal and state regulatory changes, and reimbursement in order to develop plans and design systems to promote growth and financial success and to ensure compliance with all standards.

• Seeks opportunities to interact with staff and leaders by maintaining high visibility within each Branch.

• Represents Penn Medicine Hospice at appropriate local, county, state, and national conferences and meetings.

Credentials:

Registered Nurse - PA and NJ (Required)

Hospice experience- (Required)

Education or Equivalent Experience:

Masters degree or currently matriculated in a Master’s level program preferably in nursing (Required)

Bachelors degree in in Nursing from an accredited school of Nursing (Required)

3+ years leadership experience in hospice, palliative care or acute care (Required)
