WSP USA Vice President, Water Resources Engineering in Austin, Texas

This Opportunity

WSP is currently searching for a Senior Design Manager located in the South Texas Gulf Coast area. Your initial assignment will be serving as Design Manager as part of an Owner’s Representative Team focused on oversight of a progressive design build team for a major water treatment facility. This multi-million project is a key element in our client’s future water supply portfolio.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be part of our dynamic and highly talented multi-disciplinary team supporting the water treatment project and our municipal water / wastewater / Stormwater projects throughout Texas and the western United States.

Your Impact

  • Guiding public agencies and private sector clients through the delivery of capital projects ranging across the spectrum of pubic ana private water. wastewater treatment and conveyance and other capital assets.

  • Collaborating in a teaming environment with other members of project teams for the successful delivery of design and construction projects, including interacting with, and providing appropriate technical advice to senior client staff, their engineers, legal counsel, and internal-client project teams.

  • Advise project teams and client managers with respect to ongoing project implementation issues, including change management and the interpretation of engineering contract documents.

  • Provide oversight over technical work including pilot testing and studies, design Development, project scheduling, contractual change management, data collection, analysis and evaluations, hydraulic calculations, and modeling; prepare engineering reports and supporting calculations and documents, prepare construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.

  • Work closely with our Texas Water/Wastewater Business Line Leader to identify and position for water/wastewater/stormwater facilities projects across the State of Texas.

  • Lead and mentor junior staff in developing their skills in planning, design and construction management of water and wastewater projects.

  • Manage projects as assigned, including assisting with project pursuits, development of scope and level of effort, project execution, and project closeout, ensuring compliance with scope, schedule, and budget requirements.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated successful leadership in conceptualizing and executing large scale multidisciplinary water/wastewater facilities design projects.

  • History of developing strong, long term client relationships.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in a water or wastewater related course of study or closely related discipline.

  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience in multidisciplinary water/wastewater facilities planning, engineering, and construction.

  • Demonstrated team leadership skills leading teams of other engineers and subconsultants in multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Effective external leadership skills including effectively interacting with clients, contractors, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Strong verbal and written communications skills when interacting with others, with the ability to express intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

  • Highly proficient with water/wastewater engineering principles, practices, and methods and their application to environmental and project work-related issues, including strong knowledge of relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Professional Engineer in Texas required, or the ability to obtain via reciprocity within six months of hire date.

  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.

  • Ability to work independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, math principles, predictive models, and tools.

  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering

  • Experience in design development for complex water / wastewater plants.

  • Design of either low- or high-pressure membrane facilities.

  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.

  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.

  • Existing client relationships within Texas.
