Generac Power Systems Technical Application Manager in Austin, Texas

The Technical Application Manager serves as the Generac Subject Matter Expert (SME) on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) code interpretation, including NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E. This role develops and leads training for groups of local inspectors and members of the Generac dealer and contractor network to educate them on local code requirements and Safe and Reliable installation practices. The Technical Application Manager must be clear, concise, engaging, and able to present to audiences up to thousands of external stakeholders at any time.

In addition to external trainings, the Technical Application Manager is key participant in internal discussions to ensure that Generac project teams and leadership teams are well-educated on current codes and impending codes additions/changes that make impact project or business direction.

Essential Duties:

  • Maintain in-depth knowledge on existing and impending NEC and NFPA codes and standards impacting installation of Generac Products.

  • Complete weekly reports for submission to Senior Manager Technical Applications.

  • Comfortable and familiar with interpreting State and local laws and regulations on the installation of Generac products.

  • Support Sales team as SME for the safe and reliable installation of Generac Products.

  • Maintain current, and assist with future, curriculum development for Generac CEU program.

  • Assist dealers and electrical contractors throughout the United States and Canada with codes and standards interpretation/assistance.

  • Actively participate in Public Input review for NFPA 70 National Electrical Code update – 2026 and beyond.

  • Comfortable presenting publicly as Generac product installation SME in front of state and local governments.

  • Attend and participate in state and regional professional (trade-related) meeting and conventions.

  • Use knowledge to educate internal stakeholders and project teams on impacts to drive compliance in the project and business planning processes.

  • Participate in panels, lobbying, or other key processes to drive code changes.

  • Develop and lead training of local inspectors and the Generac dealer and contractor network with primary focus on educating participants on the local code requirements and best installation practices (Programs will allow for professionals to receive continuing education credits)

  • Troubleshoot and provide feedback to appropriate teams or stakeholders.

  • Assist with curriculum development.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 10+ years’ experience of residential and/or industrial electrical experience specifically in construction and the installation of commercial and Residential optional Standby Generators

  • 5 years’ experience in supervisory and project management role

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong presentation skills (Able to present for 4 hours and up to 16 hours over 2 days, CEU training programs)

  • State Master Electrician License or equivalent Electrical Contractor license (Verification required)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with full Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Prior experience assembling and leading training for numerous participants

  • Member of the Inspector or electrical professional organization.

  • Earned associate’s degree from recognized community college or university.

  • Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with the installation of optional Stand-By Generator systems.

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
