Classification title: Insurance Specialist III This position involves performing moderately complex (journey-level) handling of written inquiries and resolving Texas consumer complaints involving insurance issues such as claim settlements, obtaining benefits, resolving customer service grievances, and coordinating with insurance companies for responses and resolution. Work involves researching and identifying alleged violations of the Texas Insurance Code and Texas Administrative Code, including examining, reviewing and interpreting complaints, records, reports, and management practices to ensure compliance with statutes and agency rules. Work may include communication with the public via the agency complaint portal, by email, by phone, or in person; enters information into databases, processes correspondence to customers, and other clerical services. Manages dynamic case load of complaints involving multiple lines of insurance. Coordinates with other functional areas of TDI. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This position: Analyzing complaints against insurance entities to assure that all possible violations of the Texas Insurance Code, and/or Texas Administrative Code are addressed. Assist consumers with resolution of complaints against their insurance companies by phone or in writing. Analyzes consumer complaints dealing with Life, Accident and Health insurance coverage to ensure compliance with state statutes. Provides technical information to consumers, insurance company representatives and agents. Supports the agencys Consumer Help Line with overflow calls. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: This position requires: Sixty college hours. One- and one-half years of experience in technical insurance or in a field relative to assignment. Education and experience relevant to position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Additional job details: This position requires regular work attendance. The position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule. If eligible, the employee must have a secure, dedicated workspace with reliable broadband internet service. The ideal candidate must be available for weekly meetings and group collaboration via Microsoft Teams and other applications during regular business hours. The interview will include a writing and grammar test. Preferences for this position include: Bi-lingual in Spanish This position requires demonstrated knowledge of: Business or program terminology, spelling, punctuation, grammar, typing formats, and word processing techniques and procedures. Life, Accident and Health lines of insurance; and Rules and statutes pertaining to Life, Acci ent and Health lines of insurance. This position requires demonstrated skill in: Problem solving and critical thinking. Using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint. Using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs such as Centralized Accounting Payroll and Personnel (CAPPS) and other systems required to perform the job. Planning, decision-making and problem-solving. Effective oral and verbal communication. This position requires the demonstrated ability to: Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information. Apply critical thinking to evaluate, analyze, and interpret information. Interpret rules, regulations, filing requirements, policies, and procedures. Comprehend state and federal health insurance statutes and rules. Compose technical correspondence to consumers, insurance company representatives, agents and others. Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of employees, industry representatives, governmental officials, and the general public. Work independently and as a team player. Exercise good judgment and discretion. Be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks.
