TEXAS WORKFORCE COMMISSION Software Engineer (Telework) in Austin, Texas

WHO YOU ARE: Seeking an IT Mainframe professional to provide automated systems development work in support of Application Solutions software systems. Use a consultative, positive, solution-focused mentality with a proactive and can-do attitude. Communicate in a professional, customer-focused manner. Collaborate with other IT teams to accomplish work.
WHAT YOU WILL DO: The Software Engineer (Programmer IV-V) perform advanced to highly advanced (senior-level) computer programming work. Work involves overseeing programming projects, analyzing proposed applications and designing software solutions. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Maintains a reliable predictable work schedule. May provide guidance or oversee the work of others. May be called upon to work outside of normal business hours to complete urgent assignments or troubleshoot critical issues.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO: -Perform senior-level automated systems development work in support of Application Solutions software systems. -24/7 technical support work activities include being available outside core business hours to troubleshoot, deploy, patch, assist with software version upgrades. -Perform or may oversee software development activities during all phases of the system development lifecycle (SDLC): design, code, test, implement, and maintain. -Provide prompt and accurate feedback when issues arise. -Document and track requests for support, solutions and share knowledge base. -Prioritize and manage multiple support request at one time and follow up to ensure systems are fully functional after troubleshooting. -Collaborate with Schedules Releases teams and provide backup support. -May serve as backup to the manager and other team members. -Actively participates in maintaining and providing input to the departmental dashboard. -Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and agency laws, rules, policies, and procedures including IT Handbook and SOPs that govern TWC IT. -Contribute to teamwork and communicate effectively. -Promote an image of IT excellence. -Perform other duties as assigned.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH: -Bachelors degree in computer science, computer information systems, management information systems or related field and two years of experience as a developer or six years of experience as a developer. -Experience with one or more of the following programming languages COBOL, TSO/ISPF, JCL, CICS, and database technologies. -Experience working in Mainframe software development environments. -Knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts. -Demonstrated skills using software/systems development methodologies such as waterfall, iterative, and/or agile sprints; problem-solving; critical thinking; building quality into code; planning and organizing work; meeting due dates. -Must show initiative and good judgment, ability to function well under pressure, and remain focused on the priorities with other demands. -Ability to analyze problems, develop solutions, communicate clearly and communicate effectively with technical colleagues and non-technical customers. -Ability to provide strong technical expertise and share knowledge in a team environment. -Detail-oriented skills and ability to solve complex o advanced computer programming problems. -Skill in solving problems; in scheduling, testing, installing, and implementing programs; and in troubleshooting computer software systems. -Strong written and verbal communication skills to serve as a technical consultant to peers, clearly and accurately document relevant issues, and prepare accurate, concise, reliable reports. -Knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission programs. -Experience with TWC technology platforms.
YOU QUALIFY WITH: -Programmer IV: Four years of full-time experience in data processing, computer science, computer programming, systems analysis, and/or related field. -Programmer V: Five years of full-time experience in data processing, computer science, computer programming, systems analysis, and/or related field. -Both Levels: Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
