Amazon Software Development Manager, Device OS in Austin, Texas
Description
As a Software Development Manager for Embedded Devices, you will lead a team that owns the low level embedded software development, reference platform bring-up, and delivering the reference software kits and middleware software solutions to partners. This role requires engaging with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to design innovative consumer products. You along with your team will take the lead in designing, prototyping, and building reference platforms to solve hard problems in Linux, RTOS and the Amazon ecosystem, delivering new platforms to showcase the combination of technologies and our portability software. In this role, you will have an enormous opportunity to make a large impact on the design and architecture of Amazon devices used every day by people you know. You will implement process improvements for both your own and surrounding teams, advise senior management, define and drive the necessary activities needed for data driven chipset selection, drive and facilitate innovation within the team and manage team budget, headcount projections, recruiting and continuous performance evaluations. As part of your work, you will work closely with Amazon device software teams, product management teams, and Amazon service teams to drive development from the concept stage to the launch stage.
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
