We are looking for an expert broadcast systems engineer to join our team and play a critical role in working on engineering projects as well as in supporting live broadcast events. As a SME or lead in broadcasting and steaming technologies you will be working on various aspects of our broadcasting and live streaming platform, such as production, encoding, transcoding, packing, delivery, playback and analytics.

Description

The IS&T Broadcast Services team is looking for an expert in broadcasting and live streaming solutions to join the team and play a critical role in working on engineering projects as well as in supporting live events. In this role you will be contributing to various aspects of our next generation broadcasting and live streaming platform, such as production, encoding, transcoding, packing, delivery, playback and analytics. You will also be taking a lead role in automating workflows and driving efficiency in the operational monitoring and support systems. Responsibilities: Design, develop, test and support scalable and reliable broadcasting and live streaming solutions using various technologies and frameworks. Work with multiple internal and cross functional teams to understand systems, workflows, and issues. Provide support for Production, Post-Production, Transmission activities and tasks. Work to quickly resolve issues and advance to the appropriate teams and individuals when needed. Automation is key to supporting complex workflows. You will work with automation teams from providing the project scoping to provisioning the infrastructure. Update documentation such as standard operating procedures for the team. Provide setup and configuration assistance for broadcast control room production equipment and staff as needed. Ability and flexibility to work within a 24x7 emergency response as needed. Stay up-to-date on the latest broadcasting and streaming technologies and industry trends. Drive continuous improvement by optimizing technical infrastructure and workflows for efficient service delivery and support. Limited travel as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 7+ years of broadcast and streaming engineering and operations experience, preferably in a senior or lead role.

  • Experience with broadcasting and live streaming protocols such as HLS, DASH, RTMP, etc.

  • Education:

  • BS/BA in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent is preferred - Equivalent or relevant field experience acceptable.

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in IP video technology with an emphasis on SMPTE 2110 and complex workflows.

  • Experience with video and audio codecs such as H.264, HEVC, AAC and others.

  • Experience with streaming media security and DRM such as AES, FairPlay, SPEKE.

  • Deep understanding of AWS media services or similar cloud technologies.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to support complex workflows for broadcasting events using multi-vendor technologies such as AWS, Ateme, Lawo, EVS, Arista, etc.

  • Experience with APIs and programming languages such as Python and JavaScript.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple multi-functional teams.
