Charles Schwab Senior Manager - Software Development and Engineering in Austin, Texas

As Manager of Software Development Engineering for Schwab Order Management System, you will be managing an organization of 10 to 15 individual contributors, process, and quality of service improvements, strategic planning, project management for software within the team, and management of resources across teams. Work closely with your developers, product, design, and other engineering leads to define the strategy, agreement priorities, and cultivate a highly collaborative and effective cross-functional team. The technical scope includes the core client experience, overall serving stack, application performance, and system reliability.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about building high performing teams and solving the toughest software challenges; you’ll be excited by working at huge scales, and you’ll have a proven record of delivering highly operable and maintainable software projects on time. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to make the systems you own better. You’ll be intensely client focused: you understand your clients’ challenges and are constantly looking for ways to solve them. You have great communication skills, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.

What you are good at

  • Provide the technical vision and strategy for the team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Additionally, the role requires not only managerial expertise but also hands-on proficiency with .Net technology, including coding-level knowledge, to guide the team effectively and provide technical leadership. Furthermore, the ability to challenge the status quo and drive innovation is essential for success in this role.

  • Partner closely with Development teams, Product Management, and other Engineering teams to create, drive, and deliver an innovative, compelling, and user-friendly experience to our customers.

  • Build and lead an outstanding engineering team to innovate, invent, implement, and deploy complex software solutions in a commercial, mission-critical environment.

  • Hands-on expertise with NoSQL databases, such as Aerospike and MongoDB, to support low latency, high-performance, and schema-less solutions.

  • Unlock roadblocks at corporate level and cultivate collaboration with senior technologists across Schwab Technology Services through leadership, creativity, intelligence, and presence.

  • Develop and grow talent through effective mentoring, coaching, succession planning and retention strategies for key talent in a fast growth, highly competitive environment.

  • Remain flexible to changing priorities, open to new ideas and have Schwab’s success firmly in your focus.

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience

  • Hands-on experience building scalable backend systems and platforms

  • 8+ years of experience building scalable backend systems and platform with .NET / Java technologies

  • Experience developing cloud-ready, low latency, high volume applications.

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in computer science/Information Systems or Engineering or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in finance industry
