Principal Software Engineer - Customer Applications at Realtor.com ®

Location: Austin, TX

As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll be a pivotal technical leader throughout the entire software development lifecycle. You will leverage your exceptional leadership and collaboration skills to drive cross-organizational technical initiatives and deliver innovative solutions that set industry standards. Your involvement will be instrumental in designing and implementing delightful solutions for our valued consumers and customers.

As the Principal Engineer of Customer Applications at Realtor.com , you will play a pivotal role in building industry-leading professional solutions that connect our customers with people looking to Buy, Sell, or Rent a home with a delightful experience. Your direct impact will drive the achievement of critical OKRs in the coming years, including strategic investments in our technology and product lines.

What you’ll do:

• Drive Technical Excellence: Champion best practices in software engineering, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions. Evaluate and facilitate the implementation of innovative technologies and methodologies to enhance product performance and resilience.

• Foster Collaboration: Help cultivate a culture of collaboration and innovation within engineering teams and the organization. Partner with stakeholders to define work, expected outcomes, priorities, and milestones.

• Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic insights and technical expertise to drive product roadmap decisions. Collaborate with senior leadership to align engineering initiatives with broader company goals and objectives.

• Promote Observability: Support processes for monitoring progress and measuring results. Celebrate and promote wins and take ownership in helping drive results.

• Evangelize Solutions: Present and evangelize solutions to internal teams and stakeholders, articulating the vision in a way that resonates with everyone and creating milestones to connect vision to work.

• A technical leader on our most demanding, cross-functional projects

• Mastery in designing full-stack product architectures and building resilient solutions that encompass large data sets and scale across the organization

• A proven track record of being results and outcome-driven, recognizing the importance of efficiently shipping quality with quality while iterating on results.

• Exceptional ability to coach and mentor engineers, aiding in skill enhancement and career advancement.

• Strong customer empathy with a dedication to consistently exceeding their expectations.

• Deep hands-on experience with multiple OO languages

• Deep understanding of modern web architectures, database technologies, and cloud platforms

• Mastery with AWS or equivalent cloud computing platform

• 12+ years of experience or related work experience preferred

• Enthusiasm for continuous learning, improvement, collaboration, and sharing within a team environment.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field, Master's degree preferred
