Summit Electric Supply Gear Quotations Specialist (Project Manager) in Austin, Texas

The Gear Quotations Specialist provides dedicated technical expertise, inventory, logistical support, and specialized technical solutions for multiple customer jobs simultaneously. This position will be primarily responsible for estimating, quoting and servicing Summit’s customers in the areas of switchgear, automation systems, power transformers, and engineering services as well providing ongoing technical, logistical, and procurement expertise during the project. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage customer projects from start to finish. This includes order entry, updating customers on ship schedules, bill downs, estimated billing for contractor draw dates, managing project through stock inventory, change orders, daily issues, submittals, O&Ms, etc.

  • Analyze technical schematics and work with customers and Account Managers to suggest compatible product solutions that comply with all project specifications and applicable regulations. 

  • Complete material take-offs from drawing, detail, unit, or area.

  • Coordinate logistical activities of shipping and receiving teams and other project personnel to ensure the integrity of the supply chain from purchase order to final delivery at the construction site. 

  • Remotely monitor and control project inventory utilizing Summit’s proprietary SAP Inventory Management system and coordinate with Summit’s purchasing department to ensure product availability in line with contract specifications and demand-driven inventory practices.

  • Ensure accuracy in the interface between client technical schematics and Summit’s SAP system including electrical/instrumentation plans, cable schedules, and other data.

  • Ensure timely procurement, transfer and release of material according to Material Take Off and Construction Schedules.

  • Arrange for material expediting to ensure timely delivery to the work site.

  • Ensure timely and accurate quote information and responses to customer requirements, challenges, issues, and information requests.  Assume overall ownership of these elements of the project to resolve customer concerns and encourage customer loyalty to Summit.

  • Thoroughly understand all product capabilities, features and benefits as well as Summit’s market conditions, product warranties and services to maintain Summit’s ongoing business value proposition to customers utilizing specialized knowledge in products related to industrial applications and power systems.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Technical knowledge of electrical switchgear.

  • Prior project quotations experience with commercial and/or industrial products, from manufacturing or distribution background.

  • Significant experience in electrical distribution and/or manufacturing of electrical or related industry.

  • Effective user of ERP systems (preferably SAP).

  • Knowledge of commercial electrical suppliers and product lines, pricing strategies, and local/regional market.

  • Ability to travel to customer offices and construction sites.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, with customers and suppliers at the highest level.

  • Strong customer service orientation, organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Time management – ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Problem analysis and resolution at both a strategic and functional level.

Beneficial Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Industrial Distribution, a related discipline or equivalent experience.

  • Technical knowledge of substations, protective relay systems, battery and ups systems, backup generators, power transformers, and transmission systems

  • History of successfully leveraging innovative and unique customer solutions and services to gain market share and enhance profitability. 

  • Successful experience in electrical distribution including knowledge of industrial or commercial product applications and support of large-scale construction projects.

  • Established relationships within the local commercial and/or industrial contractor community, especially within the procurement, design and engineering services.

  • Experience in supplier relations, vendor managed inventory, and materials management.

  • Completion of NAED’s EPEC program at the Gold level.
