Transportation Engineer ISalary Grade - B24 - $62,004 - $94,913Performs bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of bridge construction and maintenance at theBridge Division. The engineer is familiar with construction specifications, materials, and bridge standards in support ofstatewide bridge construction. The engineer diagnoses and performs structural analyses of problems, determines cause,and develops solutions to a wide variety of bridge construction issues, defects, deterioration, and damage. Ensurescompliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contactwith governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not requirefrequent supervision of details.Transportation Engineer IISalary Grade - B25 - $66,259 - $101,556Performs complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of bridge construction and maintenance atthe Bridge Division. The engineer is familiar with construction specifications, materials, and bridge standards in support ofstatewide bridge construction. The engineer diagnoses and performs structural analyses of problems, determines cause,and develops solutions to a wide variety of bridge construction issues, defects, deterioration, and damage. Ensurescompliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contactwith governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments;however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Transportation Engineer IIISalary Grade - B26 - $72,886 - $108,666Performs advanced and complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of bridge constructionand maintenance at the Bridge Division. The engineer is familiar with construction specifications, materials, and bridgestandards in support of statewide bridge construction. The engineer diagnoses and performs structural analyses ofproblems, determines cause, and develops solutions to a wide variety of bridge construction issues, defects, deterioration,and damage. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own workplan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer IVSalary Grade - B27 - $80,174 - $115,000Performs highly advanced and complex bridge and structural engineering work in the functional area of bridge constructionand maintenance at the Bridge Division. The engineer is familiar with construction specifications, materials, and bridgestandards in support of statewide bridge construction. The engineer diagnoses and performs structural analyses ofproblems, determines cause, and develops solutions to a wide variety of bridge construction issues, defects, deterioration,and damage. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervisingand assume direct accountability for the work product.The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on theapplicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IAnswers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes dataand provides summaries.Assists in performing structural review of complex forming, false work and erection details.Assists in reviewing shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.Assists in the developmen of specifications for special bridge design details and projects.Inspects structures for impact damage or construction problems and may design emergency shoring to prevent collapseof damaged structures.Makes presentations and represents TxDOT.Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates andcontracts.Performs inspections, structural evaluations and analyses of bridges and related structures that have appraisal andcondition ratings or are recommended for closure.Performs moderately complex structural analysis of bridge designs.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IIAll of the above and:Assists districts with bridge inspection-related matters.Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.Schedules, assigns and oversees bridge construction inspection activities.Performs complex structural analysis of bridge designs.Rates and monitors load carrying capacities of bridges.Recommends bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.Transportation Engineer IIIAll of the above and:Performs highly complex structural analysis of bridge designs.Performs structural review of complex forming, false work and erection details.Resolves differences between contractors and inspectors.Transportation Engineer IVAll of the above and:Develops or reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.Recommends prioritization of bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.Reviews shop drawings prepared by fabricators for bridges and related structures.
