Job/Position DescriptionPerforms highly advanced (senior-level) managerial work providing direction and guidance in strategic operations and planning. Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Programs this position directs program activities and/or business function within the Office of Child Safety, including providing oversight and strategic direction related to the Departmentand#146;s Child Safety Specialists and analysts. The Director IV position directs child safety reviews, monitors child safety trends, directs research and evaluation activities, oversees the provision of technical assistance and statistical/research reports, data analysis and data collection work designed to promote and exemplify the mission and vision of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Programs. The position oversees staff that (1) conduct child safety reviews in collaboration with CPS and CPI staff and (2) gather, organize, and analyze data that demonstrates the progress of the Officeand#146;s assessment, reviews and initiatives, determines data requirements, designs data collection tools, constructs databases, conducts statistical analysis of said data and publishes reports containing descriptive verbiage, graphs, tables and/or charts in a professional format for Division leadership, legislators, and the general public. Work involves developing goals and objectives consistent with the DFPS Strategic Plan; developing policies, procedures, and guidelines; establishing priorities, standards, and measurement tools for determining progress in meeting goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities or business functions; and reviewing and approving budgets within departments or divisions. Supervises the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Essential Job FunctionsDirects program activities and/or business functions within a department or division.and#149;Provides effective leadership, management, and oversight of the Office of Child Safety. and#149;Oversees the day-to-day management and activities of the Child Safety Team and safety analysts. and#149;Disseminates information and management decisions to staff regarding relevant departmental activities. and#149;Provides direction to direct reports regarding activities and operations of their unit and oversees the improvement of program operations.Oversees and/or prepares a division(s) or department(s) budget and reviews and approves major expenditures; and ensures that requirements of funding sources are met. and#149;Oversees the budget to ensure that expenditures are in line with budget allowance and that the department remains within the operating budget.Oversees the collection, organization, analysis, and preparation of reports and studies, including management, productivity, and financial reports.and#149;Manages and develops staff through development of performance plans, review of performance data, consultation, training, and performance appraisal.and#149;Review and approves executive level memos and reports, published reports, related studies that impact prevention programming.and#149;Performs complex documentation, management, and review of research material to enhance and update evidence-based best practice information.
