The Office of the Governor is looking for an Appointments Specialist (Program Specialist III) to work in the Appointments Office.

What You'll Earn

The salary is $4,983.34 - $5,583.34 a month ($59,800.08 - $67,000.08 a year).

What You'll Do

This is a job that performs

complex (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Work involves assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of Appointments Office related programs and providing support services to agency staff, state agencies, and the general public. May provide guidance to others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

  • Collaborates with Appointments Managers to schedule initial screening interviews and follow-up interviews with select applicants.
  • Conducts vetting and DPS background checks.
  • Drafts press releases and solicits approvals from appointee(s).
  • Writes, maintains, and updates briefing sheets.
  • Writes the division's monthly newsletter.
  • Responds to general inquiries on agency services and functions.
  • Conducts event planning and special projects.
  • Assists staff with boards and commissions; conducts research on subject matters and issues before boards/commissions and maintains board meeting calendars.
  • Assists Appointments Managers in obtaining paperwork and other required items from applicants and appointees.
  • Assists Appointment Managers with the preparation of and sending of day-of-appointment emails to appointees; which include next steps, necessary paperwork, procedures, and points of contact.
  • Assists the Appointments Coordinator and other division staff with the administration of appointments work, including paperwork and formal notices.

How You'll Qualify

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in public policy, political, or customer service-related position.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

You're a Great Fit with

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business administration, management, government, public administration, political science, or related field;
  • Experience with governmental appointments; and
  • Experience working in or with the Texas Legislature or a Texas state agency.
