CyrusOne VP, Construction in Aurora, Illinois

The Vice President of Construction will oversee the construction and commissioning of new and existing projects including overall project management and budgetary controls with an emphasis on mission-critical electrical & mechanical systems.

Essential Functions :

  • Manage multiple data center construction projects

  • Manage the life cycle of Build projects.

  • Manage technical and contractual issues during the projects.

  • Conduct weekly project status meetings and provide weekly status reports.

  • Oversee all engineers, subcontractors and vendors working on the projects.

  • Act with decisive authority to ensure company policies are followed

  • Read and interpret architectural and engineering construction documents

  • Set and work within budgets, as well as monitor project costs and contractor productivity on both time & materials projects and change orders.

  • Keep proper, organized records of all check lists, safety records, and other project correspondence.

  • Work with the VP of Data Center Operations and CFO to establish Capital Budgets and Forecast

  • Strive to find cost savings through procurement, re-design, and project management.

  • Work with Sales to provide projected cost for budgetary quotes on potential customer proposals.

  • Provide assistance to Operations during emergency situations

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be able to handle multiple construction projects simultaneously

  • Must be willing to travel between 35-50% of the time as well as oversee multiple projects in multiple states simultaneously

  • Proven record of leadership, strong verbal and written communications abilities, superior interpersonal and organizational skills, computer proficiency, capacity to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, impeccable integrity and can-do attitude are all essential to success

  • Deep experience in mission critical projects

  • Experience managing highly professional multinational construction team

  • Demonstrated mature project and financial job reporting

  • Demonstrated skills in continuous cost reduction and schedule adherence

  • Must be able to implement strong cost controls, have the ability to identify potential problems and resolve them in a timely manner, monitor and enforce schedule goals and project quality

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software & Microsoft Project version 2003 or higher

  • A proven record of accomplishments entering new cities and putting together construction projects from beginning to end ensuring the timelines are met

  • A thorough understanding of contracting strategies including but not limited to lump sum, cost plus, fee-based, T&M

  • A thorough understanding of material take-off & cost estimating experience, and a working understanding of labor rates, general conditions, overhead, & profit

  • Knowledge of AutoCad is a plus

  • Knowledge of network & operating systems support a plus

  • Strong customer service skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to develop and document procedures

  • Must be able to work with people at all levels internally and within the customer & vendor environments

  • Must be able to work in a team environment

  • Located in Dallas

Experience Skills:

  • 15 years’ experience working in mission critical data center constructions, UPS system installations, generator installations and have overall critical facility knowledge

  • Minimum of 15 years project management experience in one of the following fields: Electrical Contracting, General Contracting or Construction Management

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field; equivalent related work experience may be substituted for degree, MBA a plus

Certifications:

  • Certified Project Manager (PMI) or similar project management certification (equivalent work experience may be substituted for certification)

Physical and mental requirements:

  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time

Work environment:

  • Work will be performed in an office setting as well as on construction sites and or in data centers.

  • Office Setting will have moderate office noise

  • Data Center environment could include varying temperatures and loud noises on moderate occasions
