VCA Aurora Animal Hospital is growing its Emergency and Critical Care Service and seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our Overnight team!

Position Overview:

Are you a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Assistant looking to make an impact in the world of emergency and critical care? We are seeking an Overnight Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic team. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about providing exceptional care to animals in need.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with emergency procedures, critical care, and treatments.

• Perform patient intake, monitoring, and discharge processes, ensuring thorough documentation and communication with pet owners.

• Provide compassionate care, comfort, and reassurance to both patients and their owners during stressful situations.

• Administer medications, perform blood draws, and place IV catheters as directed by the veterinary team.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment area to ensure readiness for any emergency.

• Monitor vital signs, perform TPR (temperature, pulse, respiration) checks, and assist in stabilizing patients.

• Collaborate with the veterinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.

• Handle patient restraint during exams and procedures, ensuring safety for both the animal and staff.

• Participate in continuing education and training opportunities to stay updated on the latest in veterinary emergency and critical care.

Qualifications:

• 2 + years previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant

• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• Strong communication skills and a compassionate approach to patient care.

• A positive, team-oriented attitude with a commitment to providing the best care possible.

• Proficiency in handling and restraining animals of various sizes and temperaments.

• Basic knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, pharmacology, and anatomy.

Compensation:

Starting range is determined by license, skill set, and years of experience in the field. Financial growth opportunities available.

Shift Differential : A $3 / hr shift differential is offered to associates who work between 10 pm - 6 am.

Schedule: Full-time opportunity, Overnight/ 3rd shift. We utilize a 3 x 12 hour work week.
