Job Overview
Position produces estimates of cost of care for families prior to date of service. Focuses on complex, cost estimates identified as high risk. Is a lead for other Patient Cost Estimate Specialists. The individual must have good investigatory skills, be detail-oriented, exhibit good listening skills and problem-solving skills, and be able to speak with patients/families who may be under stress due to potential financial liability and anticipated medical services.

Qualifications
Education - High School Diploma or equivalent Experience - Three (3) years of customer service experience, including two years in a medical office setting.
Responsibilities
POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE No direct patient care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. * Performs lead duties within the unit as well as focuses on cost estimates identified as high risk by the department. * Provides cost estimate training and support to the unit. * Mentors and coaches co-workers; collaborates with management in order to reach goals and business outcomes. * Provides input surrounding federal regulations and project improvement. * Notifies families of cost estimates for services being rendered prior to the services being performed. * Estimates Trending & Reporting: 1) Updates and maintains estimate trending reports. 2) Conducts analysis and develop reports of estimate patterns by payors and clinical departments. 3) Assists in communicating results of reports to various components within Revenue Integrity and other departments. * Reviews and Analyzes Patient Cost Estimate Complaints. * Maintains knowledge of requirements and guidelines for hospital-sponsored charity care, as w ll as the availability of financial assistance from external sources. * Provides excellent customer service to all stakeholders, internal and external. Responds to all phone calls in an efficient and courteous manner. Listens and responds to customer service needs with the appropriate level of urgency. * Replies to inquiries from patients/families anticipating services to prepare estimates of amounts due based on anticipated services and patient coverage. Calculates balances based on plan and benefits, and then discusses and finalizes the method of resolving balances. * Serves as a subject matter expert for co-workers and staff. * Provides customer service in person by phone or email; assists customers, patients, families, providers, and staff with complex or escalated cost estimate questions. * Works in conjunction with hospital departments to solve intradepartmental issues. * Assists on special projects as assigned by the Supe
