Job Summary and Qualifications

This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. Under the supervision of the Plant Operations Supervisor, completes work orders, preventative maintenance inspections and other work as assigned. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Position Requirements:

  • Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s license.

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) – required.

  • Three years experience as a hospital mechanic preferred.

  • Must have general computer skills and knowledge, a telephone, available transportation, and be able to respond to work within 60 minutes for on-call schedule and in case of an emergency. Must be available for on-call shifts and long working hours.

Working knowledge of fire drills, boilers & chillers, Building Automation System (BAS), vetteroot, boiler logs, medical gas logs, isolation room logs, testing for negative pressure, booster pump logs and acknowledge & clear any alarms affiliated with these systems. Ability to take fire panels off and on-line, fan coil cleaning, motor replacement, filter changing and drain line repair. Knowledge of television programming and nurse call replacement and programming. Mechanical understanding of drain cleaning using a snake, urinal and toilet part replacement, light ballast changing and minor wall patching and touch up painting. Must be able to comprehend architectural drawings for life safety purposes and understand Environment of Care (EOC) rounding. Ability to react in emergencies and knowing which vendor & contractors to notify. Working knowledge of filter changing on roof top units and air handlers. Ability to change out medical gas tanks and understand where all main electrical disconnects and breakers are located. Knowledge of where to find the main water shut off, natural gas shut off, main oxygen shut off and where to locate the diesel thank.
