Job Overview

Performs technical procedures in the Histology laboratory. Routine tasks include specimen embedding, sectioning including frozen sections and staining.Provides assistance in the gross room; accessioning, cassette labeling, specimen triage, and performs gross techniques, Immunohistochemistry and In-situ hybridization. Our laboratory testing plays a key role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of pediatric, adult and prenatal conditions. With state-of-the-art laboratory services, facilities and technologies, we support and guide quality patient care across the pediatric spectrum. Our labs offer a wide range of high-quality lab screenings and diagnostic tests with rapid turnaround times, as well as an unmatched scope and capabilities, including diagnostic tests that aren't available anywhere else in the country. Additional Information

Department: Histology Lab Hours per week: 40, eligible for benefits Shift: Evenings, 11am-7:30pm *Can be flexible with a later start time. Rotating on-call for weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

EDUCATION - Bachelor's degree EXPERIENCE - Minimum of three years of experience using basic histology skills, embedding, sectioning and staining. Advance knowledge of human anatomy, cellular structure and function. Advance laboratory technical skills, including ability to troubleshoot. QC work and advanced reagent preparation. Operation and maintenance of general laboratory equipment; analytical balance, pH meter, tissue processor, embedding center and microtome. EQUIVALENCY - Meeting one of the other requirements set by the ASCP Board of Certification may be accepted in lieu of degree. CERTIFICATION(S) - HTL(ASCP) Previous pediatric experience preferred.

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE No direct patient care. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any r all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Performs the standards of basic histology, which includes all surgical, bone marrow, cytology, autopsy and consultation, requests according to the guidelines established by accrediting agencies. Performs routine special stains according to the established procedures and histology standards Performs Immunohistochemical and In-situ hybridization stains using technical understanding of procedures. Follows QC procedures for all equipment and tests and maintains adequate or appropriate inventory of supplies.
