Job Overview

The Formula/Human Milk Tech Senior is responsible for assisting clinical professionals, such as Registered Nurses, Registered Dietitians, Nurse Practitioners and Physicians, in providing optimal nutritional care to hospitalized patients through accurate, safe, and timely handling, storage, preparation and distribution of formulas and/or human milk to patients and families. Additionally, provides basic education and guidance to both inpatient and outpatient families.

Department Name: Lactation Services Job Status: Full-Time; 40 hours/week - eligible for benefits Shift: 4x10 hour shifts with start time either at 8am or 8:30am. There is a mandatory holiday and weekend rotation requirement.

Qualifications

Education:Associate degree in a related field is required. Experience:Minimum of one (1) year of healthcare-related experience, preferably in a hospital setting Equivalency:Minimum of two years of college credit in a healthcare-related field, such as Medical Nutrition, Anatomy and/or Physiology or certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant (MA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or as a Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Advanced Lactation Consultant (ALC) or Pharmacy Technician may be considered in lieu of a degree.

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - 30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all the following essential functions. These examples do not include all the functions which the employee may be expected to perform. Employees in this position may work in designated roles in either the Human Milk Lab, Formula Lab or in both areas.In addition, not all these functions may be required at all Children's Hospital Colorado locations. Core (Formula Lab and Human Milk Lab Roles) Retrieves, reviews, and verifies p tient human milk and/or formula orders via EMR. Prepares human milk and/or formula according to provider orders using aseptic technique. Delivers prepared human milk and/or formula to the designated locations in an accurate and timely manner. Utilizes critical thinking, communication, customer service and emotional intelligence to effectively triage formula and human milk lab calls and in person interactions.
