Job Summary:

Examples of Work Performed:

  • 25% Develop, implement and/or update internal processes and procedures and track and reconcile accounts payable, travel expenses, vouchers, and purchase requests through appropriate processes. Utilize University and CU Medicine accounting systems which reflects the Departments financial condition for the Department's DFA and external compliance.

  • 40% Interpret, analyze, evaluate, and investigate financial transactions. Enter, track, and analyze data. Uses customer feedback from faculty and staff to breakdown problems, analyze possible solutions, create new process and procedures for addressing issues and utilizes best judgement to determine the practical course of action for financial and accounting issues.

  • 25% Manage sources of funding and speed-types. Manage auditing requests and generate reports that apply accounting theory, methods principles and practices. Create, maintain, and distribute financial reports, utilizing electronic software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. Utilize University and CU Medicine Finance systems to manage finances, budgets, accounting functions, etc.

  • 25% Initiate letters and correspondence. Manage schedules and maintain electronic and manual filing systems. Provide finance system training to Department faculty and staff, which include recommendations, implementation and advising. Assist with special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or other related field from an accredited institution.

  • One (1) year of experience providing financial management support, which included processing, managing and monitoring expense accounts and reimbursements.

  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience monitoring, analyzing and tracking financial data related to internal budgets and finances.

  • Experience providing administrative HR assistance/support to faculty, staff, and students within a higher education and/or medical education environment.

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Word to develop, edit and update reports, statistics, letters, correspondence etc.

  • Experience utilizing Microsoft Excel and Access to create, revise, improve and maintain spreadsheets, statistics, financial reports, database, etc.

  • Experience working with and managing sensitive and confidential information.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience with financial record keeping and accounting systems (i.e. PeopleSoft Finance system or similar software).

  • Ability to communicate effectively in written form which includes the ability to check for typographical, grammatical and spelling errors.

  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Government Accounting standards for higher education institutions.

  • Knowledge and experience in governmental accounting and audit.

  • Knowledge of UCD, rules and policies.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of People Soft Financial software and University of Colorado financial systems.

  • Ability to interpret complex rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds which also includes experience working with students, staff, and faculty, within a higher education and/or academic medical environment.

  • Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem solving skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.

  • The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, a fast learner and possess excellent time management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to take direction and use independent judgment to coordinate various projects and meet multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to take initiative to establish work priorities and follow-through to insure timely completion of assignments.

  • Ability to establish work priorities, plan, organize, coordinate, delegate assignments as appropriate, and follow through to implement applicable financial and administrative functions and activities.

This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) Finance Professional (Finance and Accounting Professional) position is responsible for providing professional financial support to the Department of Pathology by designing, implementing, and maintaining a variety of administrative systems and processes and advising faculty, staff, and students on the proper interpretation of relevant administrative and fiscal policies and procedures. Position emphasizes the relevance and integrity of accounting systems.

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.
