Job Overview

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Dialysis Care Technician provides care to dialysis patients in the chronic outpatient setting.The Dialysis Care Technician is a direct patient care position and works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team. There will be administrative duties as well.

Qualifications

Education:High School Diploma or equivalent. Experience: One year in healthcare. Certification(s): Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from one of the following, within 18 months of hire: Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician (CCHT) Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) from NNCC Certified in Clinical Nephrology Technology (CCNT) from NNCO

Responsibilities

POPULATION SPECIFIC CARE Neonate - 30 days to 1yr Toddlers - >1yr to 3yrs Pre-Schoolers - >3yrs to 5yrs School age - >5yrs to 13yrs Adolescent - >13yrs to 18yrs Adult - >18yrs to 65yrs ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Reviews and accurately documents care provided. Sets-up and prepares dialysis machine according to dialysis orders. Checks machine conductivity and troubleshoots hemodialysis machine alarms. Assists with collection of specimens and prints labels as required for lab testing. Documents patient's vitals and machine parameters. Communicates with assigned nurse, as patient condition warrants. Breaks down dialysis machine and ensures dialysis equipment is cleaned. Supply management:Assess PAR levels, orders supply stock, works with Central Supply when supplies are needed during patient care, maintains supply of paper documentation. Conducts water responsibilities including Main RO chlorine checks, daily hardness test on Main RO, assists with portable RO setup. Unit tasks: Crash Cart checks daily and monthly, inventory review of cart supplies, orders patient nutrition in accordance wit dietary orders, answers phones, checks machine disinfection log, requests new, revised, or additional appointments for dialysis or renal nurse visits, prepares documentation run sheets for next day's treatments. Partners with Nephrology Administrative Service Coordinators on monthly admin tasks, runs sheet scanning, creates labels for run sheets, audits run
