Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct innovative research in areas relevant to environmental and occupational health

  • Communicate research findings through peer-reviewed publications, presentations to scientific peers, and to key stakeholders

  • Write and manage grants to obtain extramural support for research program

  • Teach graduate-level courses in environmental and occupational health

  • Mentor MPH and doctoral students

  • Engage with community, practice, and policy partners to promote evidence-based action across scales

  • Provide academic leadership and service to the Department, ColoradoSPH, and the University

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Public Health, Doctor of Medicine or terminal degree in a related field

  • A record of research or practice in areas relevant to environmental and/or occupational health. This can include research conducted as a doctoral student.

  • Doctor of Philosophy, Doctor of Public Health, or terminal degree in a related field

  • Established record of extramurally funded research

  • Established record of teaching and mentoring graduate students

Preferred Qualifications

  • Research focus on topics related to climate and health

  • Expertise in community-engaged research methods, exposure science, risk sciences, environmental/occupational data analysis

  • Considers physical and mental health in their research

  • A research focus and skills that are complementary to existing strengths of the EOH Department and the ColoradoSPH

  • A track record of advancing efforts to improve equity, diversity and inclusion in academic or other settings

  • Experience teaching and mentoring students with diverse life experiences and learning styles

  • A demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring to prepare graduate students with the skills and content knowledge to address current and emerging environmental and occupational health challenges

  • Evidence of commitment to research translation and/or public health practice

  • Demonstrated potential to establish and extramurally funded program of research

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in innovative and impactful environmental and occupational health research and teaching

  • Ability to lead and be a team-player in research, teaching and practice

The Colorado School of Public Health (ColoradoSPH) and Department of Environmental and Occupational Health (EOH) have openings for two full-time, 12-month positions in the tenure track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The EOH Department is a vibrant community that places a strong emphasis on innovative research and teaching, cross-discipinary collaborations and translation of research into policy and practice.We invite applicants committed to academic excellence in Environmental and Occupational Health to appliy for this position. The department has a multidisciplinary faculty with wide-ranging areas of research, including faculty housed in the Center for Health Work and Environment (CHWE). We have a growing portfolio of research on climate change and human health and encourages applicants who can further our growth in this area. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in community-engaged research methods, exposure science, risk assessment and/or environmental data analysis including geospatial methods. Competitive candidates will have a demonstrated record of innovative, impactful research and an interest in teaching and mentoring.The EOH department is a great place to pursue an academic career. The department has nationally recognized research programs ranging from the health impacts of wildfires, extreme heat and drought, to exposure and risk assessment for PFAS and oil and gas development. The department has strong collaborations with the Centers for Health, Work & Environment (CHWE) which is committed to advancing worker health, safety, and well-being, including a commitment to prevent negative impacts of climate on workers. CHWE is home to two NIOSH-funded Centers, focused on educating future occupational health and safety leaders and advancing Total Worker Health research and public health practice.The EOH department has a diverse rearch portfolio with local to global reach: faculty work with local and state government and non-profits to advance environmental justice in Colorado, with federal agencies to improve workplace safety, and with international researchers to understand how to reduce the spread of emerging pathogens. Our innovative educational programs include Masters of Public Health, Doctoral in Public Health, a first of its kind PhD in Climate Change and Human Health, Occupational Medicine Residency and Fellowships, and graduate certificate programs in Climate and Disaster Resilience and Total Worker Health. The Department has active collaborations within other departments and centers at the Colorado School of Public Health, the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and a network of climate and health researchers across federal research laboratories in Colorado and the University of Colorado and Colorado State University campuses. The EOH department is home to faculty, staff, and students who are collaborative, committed, and engaged in their effort to advance solutions for healthier and safer communities and workplaces and to build a diverse and representative EOH workforce.

  • this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2-3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings. In-person and hybrid faculty have dedicated offices.

The starting salary range for this position has been established as $115,000 to $134,500 for those hired in the rank of Assistant Professors; $135,000 to $165,500 for those hired in the rank of Associate Professor.The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
