-LIMITED PERIOD POSITION-

The Maine CDC Office of Injury and Violence Prevention (OIVP) is looking for a public health educator to provide support for community violence prevention programs across Maine. This program will coordinate work creating protective environments, promoting healthy family relationships, connecting young people to caring adults, and strengthening skills in youth and young adults.

This position will play a key role in promoting community violence prevention strategies across the state. This individual will design, implement, and evaluate health education campaigns and programs that aim to reduce injuries and violence, with a focus on educating the public and key stakeholders on evidence-based practices. The Public Health Educator will work collaboratively with community organizations, schools, healthcare providers, and other partners to create safer communities across Maine.

Core Responsibilities:

As a key member of the OIVP team, your core responsibilities will include:

• Plan, develop, and implement public health education programs focused on community violence prevention, tailoring programs to address specific populations

• Lead outreach efforts to engage communities in violence prevention initiatives to include workshops, presentations and public forums to raise awareness of safety issues and promote preventive measures

• Develop and distribute education materials to inform people about community violence risks and prevention strategies, ensuring materials are culturally appropriate and clearly communicate key messages

• Work closely with key partners to coordinate community violence prevention activities and events

• Monitor and assess the effectiveness of health education programs

• Provide training and technical assistance on best practices in community violence prevention and ways to integrate prevention strategies into existing efforts

• Lead the development and implementation of statewide public health campaigns aimed at reducing community violence

Minimum Qualifications:

Preferred candidates will also have:

• Excellent oral and written communication skills

• Ability to gather, synthesize, and summarize a variety of information

• Experience designing, implementing, and evaluating public health education programs

• Knowledge of public health frameworks, violence prevention strategies, and social determinants of health

• Ability to tailor messages and programs to various audiences

• Demonstrated skill applying best practices and standards for health communication, page layout, and information design

• Experience using data to inform public health interventions and program evaluations

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of internal and external partners
