Position Description

Responsible for providing high quality care to athletes and sports medicine patients, participating in sports medicine coverage at scholastic and special events. The Athletic Trainer is responsible to the Administrative Director of the Center for Sports Medicine. Carries out the practice of prevention of injuries in athletes and physically active individuals. Educates parents, staff, coaches, athletes, etc., about risks. Educates individuals in conditioning programs and proper environmental conditions for safe participation in physical activity. Identifies physical conditions predisposing the athlete or physically active to increased risk of injury/illness. Constructs custom protective devices that are effective in protecting specific parts of the body. Evaluates the use and maintenance of protective devices and athletic equipment by inspecting and assessing the equipment. Carries out recognition, evaluation, and immediate care of athletic injuries. Performs examination and tests. Administers first aid using standard, approved techniques and follows established emergency plan. Perform pre-operative evaluation procedures on sports medicine patients. Provides education to PT staff in principles and related topics to athletic training and sports medicine.

Position Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field and 1 year of experience. Board of Certification (ATC), appropriate state licesure as an athletic trainer. Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS). appropriate state teacher certification or eligible. Interpersonal skills, organization, timeliness, cooperation, flexibility, leadership. Appropriate state licensure as an athletic trainer.
