Title: Battery Materials Lab Engineering Intern (Year-Round

General Description:

BorgWarner is seeking a qualified individual to support the scientists and engineers in Battery and Charging Systems at our P ropulsion Technical Center (PTC) in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This person will work under the direction of the Battery Materials Lab e ngineers and will be required to perform a wide variety of testing and analysis associated with material selection and root-cause failure analysis .

Th is position will provide opportunities to expand analytical and problem solving skills as well as contribute to the development of new analytical methods and techniques that can be applied to various materials (polymers, metals, ceramics, composites, and lubricants) . The individual will work alongside scientists and engineers to support research and development projects for new products . They will also provide product launch support and quality control to manufacturing sites . Additionally, they will perform failure analysis of field return components from internal testing and customers .

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Pursuing a b achelor’s degree ( B S / B A) in materials eng ineering, materials sci ence , chemistry, chem ical eng ineering , eng ineering chemistry, or mechanical engineering.

• Ability to operate laboratory test and analysis equipment typically used in material investigations .

• Familiarity with any of the following would be advantageous but is not required :

• Microscopy (optical and SEM)

• Polymer and organic material testing (FTIR, TGA, DSC, GC-MS )

• Surface metrology and roughness measurements

• Tensile and compression testing

• Tribology and friction testing

• Corrosion and material compatibility testing

• Knowledge of battery systems and materials preferred but not required .

• Familiarity with safe lab practices and chemical safety .

• Ability to multi-task efficiently .

• Good written and verbal communication skills .

• Motivated and able to work independently or in a team-oriented environment .
