The senior analyst needs to have a thorough knowledge of the sales tax laws to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations while optimizing the company’s strategic tax planning in line with business objectives. He will be responsible to for all aspects of tax compliance, reporting, and planning for our operations across North America.

Duties will include generation of transactional reports from various enterprise systems, reconciliation of sales tax returns and trial balances, and the pulling of source documentation, and the review, approval and funding of the tax filings. The senior analyst will assist with the initial review and analysis of both sales and purchases transactions under audit review; and will support the development of NCR tax positions in a clear and concise manner, with full back up documentation.

In addition, when necessary, the senior analyst will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholder to gather necessary information, ensure proper reporting, and provide valuable tax guidance. The senior analyst may also assist the team with ad-hoc projects and assignments related to North America indirect tax compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain knowledge of sales and excise tax law by researching and monitoring the tax landscape of the industry and jurisdictions where the company operates

  • Ensure accurate data gathering, review and reconciliations to support gross receipts and sales and use tax filings in collaboration with a third-party

  • Prepare journal entries related to sales and use tax payments and support reconciliations of the corresponding accounts

  • Manage exemption certificate filing, maintenance and compliance

  • Regularly communicate with the sales tax manager regarding projects and tasks

  • Develop good working relationships with personnel within the Finance, Purchasing, Shared Services and other operations teams

  • Identify and assist with the implementation of process enhancements to correct issues stemming from audits or other diligences

  • Provide subject matter expertise as part of corporate and tax initiatives impacting sales, use and excise taxes

  • Support sales tax registration analysis including voluntary disclosure agreements as applicable

  • Support the research and communication of sales tax impacts of large capital projects

  • Perform administrative tasks in a timely manner

  • Other duties as assigned by the sales tax Manager

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

  • CPA or CMI preferred, but not required. Public accounting experience a plus.

  • 4+ years of experience as part of a dynamic multi-state sales tax team in the technology industry

  • Exceptional oral/written communication skills with ability to interact professionally with diverse groups

  • Working knowledge of OneSource (Thompson Reuters) or similar sales tax decision making software is preferred, along with diverse enterprise system knowledge or adaptability

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage and make progress on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to gather facts, research a tax position, and accurately communicate tax advice

  • Detail oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Exceptional oral/written communication skills with ability to interact professionally with diverse groups

  • Proficiency in tax research tools and Microsoft products

  • Good working knowledge of multi-state sales tax rules and regulations. Ability to apply these rules to transactions in the technology industry

  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment

  • Excellent work ethic - high standard of performance and production. A sense of humor is a plus!
