Microsoft Corporation Senior Director, Core Engineering in Atlanta, Georgia

In the Corporate, External and Legal Affairs (CELA) Customer Security and Trust (CST) team, we work with each other, and with many different partners internal and external to Microsoft to spearhead cybersecurity policies globally, to protect Microsoft Customers and defend the global Digital Ecosystem. The Cybersecurity & Trust Engineering (CSTE) team within CST is the central driving force behind engineering and cybersecurity initiatives for CST and Microsoft CELA. The CELA CSTE team is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Director, Core Engineering to be a leader in Software Engineering and Talent Development. This role is pivotal in driving innovation for CSTE’s customers and partners. The primary objective is to lead and propel the core engine of advanced, thought-leading, efficient, and effective engineering solution delivery for CSTE, ensuring the organization scales with business demands and achieves its vision.

The candidate will possess extensive experience in Software Engineering, particularly with Azure and distributed systems, focusing on scalability and reliability. They should have a proven track record with high-volume data processing systems and making strategic decisions regarding platform choices and microservice/container architecture. Additionally, the candidate will have demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, and driving a culture of innovation and accountability. Significant exposure to co-engineering partnerships across teams and departments is essential.

  • Uphold Engineering Discipline: Establish authentic expectations to uphold engineering discipline by engaging Core Engineering and all CSTE functions. Collaboratively build and implement best practices tailored to diverse customer business rhythms and our diverse talent base. Aim to optimize the predictability of solution delivery and enhance customer satisfaction. Lead with a focus on consistently delivering solutions that are efficient to maintain, support, and modernize as new technologiesemerge and requirements change. Partner with product managers and business stakeholders to define and create data points that measure the business impact of the solutions.

  • Amplify Opportunities Across Boundaries: Apply an engineering solutioning mindset to foster collaboration within teams and across organizational boundaries in CELA and Microsoft. Enhance boundaryless, impact-oriented support and accountability. Transition from a self-reliance model to one that builds alliances based on common and overlapping missions, leveraging available resources meaningfully. Achieve necessary impact and optimize returns on investments. Enable the organization to scale in alignment with departmental and company-wide goals, realizing the collective vision of being a technology leader for today and the future.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience

  • 6+ years in Azure or other commercial cloud computing experience

  • 6+ years people management experience

  • 5+ years designing and implementing extensive data pipelines and systems integration across internal and external boundaries

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science

  • OR related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript,

  • OR Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years integrating AI into systems and applications

  • Proven experience embracing a DevSecOps mindset

  • Proven experience with containerization technologies

  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning through the publication of papers, industry presentations, and obtaining relevant certifications

  • Proactiveness; a positive outlook and approach to change management 

  • Be a self-starter with attention to detail and desire to learn new technologies

  • Ability to influence others inside and outside of direct team 

  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills  

  • Able to organize, schedule work and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Be able to work under pressure and deadlines, with ability to manage complexity while driving clarity

Software Engineering M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $161,600 - $286,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $209,600 - $314,400 per year.
